ASUS VU279CFE-M monitor review: nice
01.03.24
The ASUS VU line of monitors is designed for everyday use. The models have all the necessary functions and connection options. By and large, they are suitable for both office tasks and content consumption, and in some cases for games. The monitors are notable for their stylish colors and ergonomics. Not least of all, they are interesting due to energy-efficient technologies, as well as prices. Let’s look at a specific example with the ASUS VU279CFE-M model.
Design and ergonomics
The ASUS VU279CFE-M monitor from our review has a minimalistic appearance. The matrix “looks” at the user, with standard thin frames all around and a wider, color-coded stripe at the bottom. Underneath all this is a two-beam, laconic stand. When turned off, the black frames on the sides and top merge with the matrix. The approach is purely aesthetic, of course. The display coating is matte. While we were trying out the monitor in action, it was standing near the window and in the rare sunny hours it did not glare much.
The monitor allows you to change the tilt, which is quite enough for most formats of installation on the table in front of the user. An interesting feature is the ability to adjust the height.
True, this is realized through three options for mounting the stand with a pitch of 25 mm. It also has a cable holder on the leg behind it to minimize cable scattering around your desk.
There are only three connectors of this monitor nearby, and in the corner of the back there is a joystick button for calling and controlling the settings menu interface.
The monitors in this line are available in four colors: soft blue, green grey, oat milk and pink clay. In combination with the rear relief part, which I will only see in open-space colleagues, the monitor looks nice.
Equipment and connections
The monitor is built on a matrix made using IPS technology. It has a diagonal of 27 inches. The display resolution is Full HD, and we would say that by modern standards this is not enough. Most users will rather prefer 2K resolution, which will give more detail and native image support. Especially when working as a second laptop screen.
The matrix has typical indicators – 250 cd/m² brightness, dynamic contrast – 100,000,000:1, and nominal contrast – 1300:1. The vertical and horizontal viewing angles are usual for this type of matrix – 178°. It is worth noting that the matte coating of the screen significantly affects color reproduction, no matter how accurate it is stated. Subjectively, video content and games look nice and accurate enough on it when selecting the appropriate scenarios in the settings menu. For work, you can choose neutral color modes. There is a quite adequate automatic adjustment of monitor brightness.
The display supports a 100Hz refresh rate and Adaptive Sync technology. The monitor can be easily connected to both a desktop via HDMI and a laptop via DisplayPort in USB Type-C connector format. The same port doubles as a charger, delivering 15W with USB Power Delivery. So, if the monitor receives the picture via HDMI, balanced USB can become so charging.
In the menu, you can select blue light filter levels, adjust brightness, contrast, etc., as well as activate modes for different types of content. There are also purely gaming features – a frame counter or permanently located sights in the center of the screen.
Impressions
The ASUS VU279CFE-M monitor truly has all the makings of a universal monitor. Of course, such professional “versatility” comes at the cost of some compromises. But it has the necessary features and connectivity options. It is interesting that not only the monitor itself is made as energy efficient as possible, at least it can be configured to be so. The manufacturer offers to assemble various accessories for mobile devices and gadgets from the packaging components.
