TSMC resumes chip production after devastating earthquake in Taiwan

Yesterday we wrote about a powerful earthquake in Taiwan with a magnitude of 7.5, which led to significant destruction in some areas of the island. The world’s largest semiconductor manufacturer TSMC temporarily suspended production to assess the damage and check equipment for damage.

As a result, it was confirmed that there was no critical damage to the equipment, and the main lithography equipment remained unharmed. The recorded damage is minor and will not affect production capacity. Currently, the efficiency of equipment at the company’s factories has been restored to 70-80%, which indicates an imminent resumption of full production.

In addition to TSMC, other enterprises were affected by production disruptions, including United Microelectronics Corporation (UMC), where employees were evacuated. However, the overall damage to the industry is assessed as not critical.
