Oppo Pad Neo tablet review: perspective
15.04.24
Budget and mid-range tablets are quite popular among those users who need them occasionally. Or a tablet is bought for children to watch YouTube and cartoons. If adults also need a tablet, it makes sense to look towards more powerful models so that they can play and maybe even work comfortably. Today we’ll look at an example of such a tablet that can handle movies and videos, cartoons for children, and will sound it all loud enough, and the processor will also allow dad to play tanks.
Design and ergonomics
Oppo Pad Neo, corresponding to the diagonal of the installed screen, is quite large and massive. However, it has a large usable area; the frames around the screen are not very wide. In front there is a solid protective glass, behind there is a metal surface with a glossy decorative strip.
The strip is easily soiled and can be used as a viewfinder when taking pictures of yourself with the main camera. The camera module protrudes noticeably in it, so it is very advisable to immediately purchase a case. There is also a front camera, its module is the same size and with the same aperture ratio, the angle is only slightly different.
The ends of the body are round. Therefore, on the one hand, it is pleasant to hold the tablet, on the other hand, it is easier for it to slip out of your hands. Notable is the presence of two pairs of Dolby Atmos speakers on the short ends. They are loud and have minimal bass. Of course, portable speakers and, especially, headphones sound better, but it’s more than enough for watching videos.
Volume and power buttons on different sides. In general, they are located conveniently for horizontal holding. In the middle of the narrow ends there is a SIM card tray and a USB Type-C port on the opposite side.
Hardware
The tablet received an LTPS screen matrix. This is an improved version of IPS. Resolution – 2408×1720 (2K). It has good color rendering, bright colors, you can choose color modes – bright and natural. Additionally, the color temperature is set, which can change automatically depending on the ambient lighting.
The refresh rate of the image is 90 Hz, and the frequency of the touch layer is 180 Hz. So when navigating the interface and scrolling through content, everything looks smooth. There is no automatic adjustment for frequency.
An 8-core MediaTek Helio G99 processor is installed, made using a 6-nm process technology. It has two Cortex-A76 cores with an operating frequency of 2200 MHz and six Cortex-A55 cores at 2000 MHz. Graphics accelerator – Arm Mali-G57 MC2. The processor power is enough for a browser with a large number of bookmarks, playing high-resolution videos and games. Tanks and Asphalt run at maximum settings, no brakes were noticed.
There is 8 GB of physical RAM installed, and another 4 GB can be allocated from the drive. A 128 GB chip is used to store data. There are 256 GB versions of the tablet. There is also support for memory cards up to 1 TB inclusive.
The tablet has its own navigation module that supports all modern systems. You can also install a SIM card.
The front and rear cameras can shoot video in 1080p or 720p at 30 frames per second. Photos are more or less high quality with sufficient lighting. So cameras should primarily be used for video calls.
The installed battery lasts for a long time. This is convenient if the tablet is not used often and you do not want to regularly check its charging. In active mode – with the Internet, video, sufficiently high brightness, its battery lasts for 15-16 hours. In standby mode with short-term use it is 35-40 hours. These are good indicators. At the same time, the tablet supports accelerated charging at 33 W.
This is what the Color OS interface looks like based on Android 13.
Impressions
The overall impression of the OPPO Pad Neo is that it is a well-balanced tablet. This is especially expressed in three main advantages. Firstly, it has a large, excellent screen that makes viewing content enjoyable. Secondly, the sound in the tablet is powerful and high-quality enough for mobile devices. Thirdly, it is important to note good autonomy, both in active mode and standby mode.
There are also some drawbacks, such as the protruding camera and the glossy surface of the back cover, which require protection with a case to avoid scratches. However, the ergonomic body, relatively thin bezels, and larger screen size are all nice features. Overall, we can say that the OPPO Pad Neo is a full-fledged multimedia station, which should be an important aspect when choosing a tablet.
