Review of the ASUS TUF Gaming GeForce GTX 1650 SUPER OC video card. We’re trying to find fault

 

As we have written many times before, due to increased competition from AMD, NVIDIA decided to insure itself a little and released SUPER versions of many of its video cards based on the Turing architecture.

 

First, SUPER versions of NVIDIA GeForce RTX 20XX were announced, and then it was the turn of NVIDIA GeForce GTX 16XX models.

 

Video cards based on We reviewed the GTX 1660 SUPER earlier. Now we are testing the ASUS TUF Gaming GeForce GTX 1650 SUPER OC (TUF-GTX1650S-O4G-GAMING), which is based on the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 SUPER OC.

 

If in the case of the GTX 1660/GTX 1660 SUPER pair, the updated GTX 1660 SUPER differed only in the use of a new type of GDDR 6 video memory, then the GTX 1650 SUPER, in comparison with its partner GTX 1650, was thoroughly modernized.

 

The NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 SUPER uses a larger and more advanced GPU, borrowed from the older GTX 1660 models.

 

As a result, the number of shader processors, texture units (TMU), and rasterization units (ROP) has increased significantly. It also uses new GDDR6 video memory with an increased resulting frequency.

 

According to the positioning of the model based on NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 SUPER, these are entry-level video cards. Their capabilities will be enough for almost all modern games when using a resolution of 1920×1080 pixels. (Full HD).

 

Getting to know the ASUS TUF Gaming GeForce GTX 1650 SUPER OC video card

 

Video card ASUS TUF Gaming GeForce GTX 1650 SUPER OC (TUF-GTX1650S-O4G-GAMING)belongs to the ASUS TUF brand line. As a rule, devices in this series (not only video cards, but also laptops, mice, etc.) have a relatively affordable price compared to more advanced models.

 

 

In the ASUS TUF Gaming GeForce GTX 1650 SUPER OC box you will find documentation and the video card itself. There are no additional adapters here.

 

 

ПThe OC prefix in the name suggests some factory overclocking. In this case, only the graphics processor (GPU) received increased frequencies.

 

The GPU boost frequency has been increased from 1725 to 1770 MHz.

 

 

 

The model is equipped with a proprietary cooling system with two fans.

 

The aluminum heatsink is pierced by a single heat pipe, which directly (through thermal paste, of course) touches the GPU crystal (DirectCU II technology).

 

 

The same radiator removes heat not only from theGPU, but also, through thermal pads, from the memory chips.

 

There is also an additional plate covering some of the power subsystem components.

 

The radiator is blown by two fans, the mechanisms of which, according to the manufacturer, use a special long-lasting lubricant and provide IP5X dust protection.

 

Unfortunately, the fans in this video card cannot stop at low loads when the temperature of theGPU drops below a set point.

 

Apparently, the manufacturer reserved this function for its more advanced graphics cards.

 

 

The set of video outputs includes HDMI, DisplayPort and DVI (all 1 piece). We would call the presence of DVI in a video card in this category an advantage. Despite its age, DVI is still relevant.

 

For additional power supply of ASUS TUF Gaming GeForce GTX 1650 SUPER OC, one 6-PIN connector is enough.

 

 

 

No backlighting is provided here.

 

There is a plastic protective plate on the back side. For the most part, it serves a decorative role, but it can protect inexperienced users from damaging elements on the board during installation.

 

 

Heat and noise

 

As mentioned above, the ASUS TUF Gaming GeForce GTX 1650 SUPER OC does not know how to stop the fans.

 

At low load they rotate at about 1000 rpm.

 

You are unlikely to hear the noise level in this mode against the background of the CPU fans, power supply and case.

 

Under high load in our conditions (open bench and room temperature of 22 °C), the GPU temperature stabilized at 65 °C while the fans were spinning up to 1500 rpm.

 

 

 

This is a very good result in terms of cooling efficiencyASUSTUFGamingGeForceGTX 1650SUPEROC.

 

The video card is quite quiet and provides a very “comfortable” temperature regime for the GPU.

 

Performance

 

Test platform configuration:

• Motherboard: Biostar Hi-Fi Z77X
• RAM capacity: 4×4 GB DDR3 1600
• Storage: SSD (system), HDD
• Operating system: Windows 10 Pro 64 bit
• NVIDIA driver used for all video cards based on NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 Super: GeForce GeForce 441.20
• NVIDIA driver used for all video cards based on NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 Super: GeForce GeForce 441.08
• NVIDIA driver used for video card based on NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 3GB: GeForce 419.35

 

Test results

 

In games and gaming tests, the GPU frequency of the ASUS TUF Gaming GeForce GTX 1650 SUPER OC video card very often exceeds 1900 MHz.

 

As you can see, a video card based on NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 SUPER is simply head and shoulders faster than regular GTX 1650(without the SUPER prefix).

 

At the same time, the speed of the GTX 1660 SUPER is still a long way off.

 

Varying between maximum and medium graphics quality settings, this level of performance is enough for a comfortable FPS level in modern games when using a resolution of 1920×1080 pixels. (Full HD).

 

This is a very respectable level, especially considering that the GTX 1650 SUPER are positioned as entry-level video cards.

 

If we take the models of the previous generation. The presented ASUS TUF Gaming GeForce GTX 1650 SUPER OC turned out to be, in general, somewhat faster than the GTX 1060 3 GB and we can assume that the speed is approximately the same as the GTX 1060 6 GB (it’s a pity, we didn’t have data on the GTX 1060 6 GB for comparison ).

 

As for power consumption, it is clearly noticeable that video cards based on the Turing architecture are superior to their counterparts of the previous generation (Pascal architecture).

 

 

Considering the temperature regime and the ability to play with the power consumption limit (can be increased to 119%), the ASUS TUF Gaming GeForce GTX 1650 SUPER OC provides a good field for experimenting with overclocking.

 

Conclusions

 

NVIDIA has greatly strengthened its position in the entry-level video card segment. With a small difference in the stated price, the new GTX 1650 SUPER turns out to be significantly faster than its cousin the GTX 1650.

 

As for the presented ASUS TUF Gaming GeForce GTX 1650 SUPER OC (TUF-GTX1650S-O4G-GAMING), the model showed itself very well.

 

ASUS TUF Gaming GeForce GTX 1650 SUPER OC is a very attractive graphics card option based on the GTX 1650 SUPER.

 

Although it lacks some functions that are usually presented in models of more advanced series (for example, there is no backlight and the fans cannot stop completely), but I am very pleased with the cooling system.

 

ASUS TUF Gaming GeForce GTX 1650 SUPER OC runs quietly and provides efficient cooling. Moreover, attention is paid not only to the GPU, but also to other important components of the board.
