Logitech G435 Gaming headset review: Chrome for everybody
18.02.22
Logitech last fall introduced a new model of a wireless headset for games, radically changing the design concept in it. The headphones have shapes that echo previous generations of G series devices, but have received a number of features. We’ll tell you more about the G435 in this review.
Design
Logitech G435 is a gaming headset based on full-size headphones. It seems minimalist in design, perhaps even too utilitarian. However, this is a misleading idea.
Yes, we decided to reduce the number of details to a minimum. Therefore, the speaker cups are essentially directly attached to the headband. Usually there are still one or two connecting elements. The continuation of the headband smoothly transitions into guides on the outside of the headphones. The spiral cable connecting the filling and halves of the headphones has sufficient elasticity to stretch at the maximum selected position.
The headphone body is made of plastic, regular in texture, resistant to light scratches and not too slippery. If you touch the headband, you feel a frame of a simple design made of two parallel plastic arches and a pair of crossbars between them. In practice, this is enough to keep its shape and survive slight twisting.
The headband is covered with fabric of the same texture as the ear pads, but unlike them, it does not have perforations. Minimalism has also reached the inside of the cups – no fabric or foam layers. We see a plastic grill and the insides glistening through it.
The main advantage of these headphones over many other models is the fabric ear pads. There is no need to tell company marketers about the greater reliability of leatherette. In hot weather, leatherette coverings are a living hell for users who cannot turn on the air conditioner for fear of catching a cold. Or if it simply doesn’t exist. Therefore, in addition to a towel on the same leatherette chair, next to the mouse there is a cloth for wiping the ears and head around them.
As for reliability. In our editorial office, on four out of five full-size headphones, the ear pads cracked or peeled off within 2 years. They “lived” in the editorial office, were not used outside, and did not lie in the sun for three days. The fifth headphones whose ear pads remained in approximately the same condition as after purchase were Koss UR20. They began to climb after five years of use at home, on the street, in the hall, as audio monitors at the university disco and other activities.
What did all this saving and radical rationalization achieve? Logitech G435 turned out to be very light. It is barely felt on the head. We spent three to four hours or more playing games and watching movies without feeling tired at all.
In the story about this model, one cannot fail to mention the possible colors. There are three of them, and they differ radically in style and degree of extravagance. Obviously, they tried to play in contrast, for the same different audiences and wardrobe styles. Although we can say that electro, punk, cyberpunk, to a greater extent, prevail in all three.
By the way, 22% of the parts of this headset are made from recycled plastic. The packaging contains recycled paper and paper cable twists. In general, the headphones are not only cute, but also “good” for the planet.
Equipment and operation
For control, there are four buttons at the end of the left earphone. The top one is responsible for turning it on and off. The middle two are double, they adjust the volume, and the bottom one turns the microphone on and off.
Their layout is quite logical. The power supply is only slightly removed from the rest so that you accidentally press it “less”. The headset automatically turns off after ten minutes of non-use. So the power button should have been moved further away to avoid false presses. It will be easy to tactilely increase or decrease the volume; the button is almost at the very corner. Well, the activation of the microphone will not turn up under your finger, because it is installed “around the corner” from the previous ones. Near it, in the middle of the end, there is a USB Type-C port for charging.
You can connect the gaming headset to a PC, smartphone or other devices wirelessly. This is done either using proprietary LIGHTSPEED technology or Bluetooth. The headset will not work just with a cable connected; you need to have a transmitter inserted with it or paired via Bluetooth. The LIGHTSPEED receiver can be used with Windows, MacOS computers or PlayStation 4 and 5 consoles.
A few words about the button controls, it’s not entirely intuitive. To switch between pairing options via LIGHTSPEED and Bluetooth, you need to hold down the microphone activation button for 3 seconds. To activate Bluetooth pairing, you need to press the power and microphone buttons at the same time. You can make your voice heard through headphones – to do this, you need to press the microphone button twice. There are other commands that you will find at of. website.
The headphones have 40 mm speakers. The audio part is certified for use with the Discord service. It also talks about compatibility with a number of frequently mentioned technologies like Dolby Atmos. I really liked the sound. It is balanced and is not overly “exaggerated” in the low frequencies, although gunshots, soundtracks and other special effects sound richer than expected for a flat equalizer. But this is a gaming headset, and not purely for music, so its setup is optimal.
Since it is also a headset, it is equipped with two microphones. One is responsible for recognizing ambient noise and filtering it out, and the second is for transmitting the user’s voice. We have already seen this combination in specialized audio devices for call centers. Both microphones are located on the left half. The conversational one is in a growth at the end of the body, and the noise recognition one is in the side of the cup.
The declared level of autonomy is 18 hours. That is almost two days of use as a headset for online calls at work, a couple of hours playing games at home and an hour or two playing music on the road.
Impressions
The Logitech G435 headset surprises with its minimalistic design, colors, if you suddenly chose something other than black, and then its equipment. In such a utilitarian, at first glance, case, they realized good sound. It certainly isn’t very deep with a well-presented scene and all that. But too much bass doesn’t clog the speakers and the mids don’t turn into mush. For everyday listening to music, online communication and of course games, this device is perfect. The headphones are very ergonomic, functional and have good battery life. And to top it off, they don’t scare you with the price.
