While electronic boards at stops with arrival times are not so popular in our country, applications that make life easier for citizens using public transport remain relevant and very useful.

 

On the pulse – Easyway

 

The first vehicle tracking application, Easyway, was launched more than two years ago and has undergone many changes since then. Although it remains quite “heavy” and does not work very quickly on budget devices, its ease of use has increased significantly.

 

 

Easyway is primarily suitable for tracking the transport you need on the route. You will be able to leave the house and walk to the stop exactly in time for your arrival. The only negative is that not all vehicles are yet equipped with GPS trackers, so their movement cannot be seen on the map. But as for Kyiv, almost all routes of Kievpastrans and large ATPs are already synchronized with the application, however, some of them are not displayed in real time.

 

Using the application is easy: you just need to turn on GPS on your device, and then Easyway will set your city as default and find the nearest stops. The one you need is selected from among them, then a suitable route from the list of transport is selected. The utility shows the approximate time of arrival of transport of a specific route at a stop on the general information tab, as well as information about the interval of transport, its operating time and fare. In the “Map” submenu you can see exactly where the bus/trolleybus/tram/minibus you need is located.

 

Among other necessary functions, it is worth noting the creation of routes with drawing on the city map (the metro is also taken into account). By the way, the service now operates in fewer cities in Ukraine than initially, due to conflicts with companies that established the rights to transmit GPS data. Route tracking is available in Kyiv, Dnepr, Kamensky, Poltava, Drohobych, Khmelnitsky, Kropyvnytskyi, Lvov.

WithYandex. TransportIt is more convenient to work on the principle of the opposite – to track not specific routes, but those traveling in your area, in real time. The application also calculates when the next transport will arrive. The directions of the route are clearly visible on the map – forward and backward are marked in blue and green, idle transport at the final stops is marked in grey. But, as with Easyway, it is not without its shortcomings: the application does not display all of the transport, even of Kievpastrans, in real time. This is especially true for minibus taxis – they are not visible on the map, you can only view the outlines of their routes on the map.

 

 

To questions like “how to get from point A to point B,” Yandex. Transport” also answers easily, and options using the metro are also drawn on the map.

 

As for use, the utility’s interface is extremely simple, it’s not difficult to understand, and if you already have Yandex. Maps and other services from Yandex, they quickly synchronize with each other. In addition, no additional downloading of maps of your city is required. “Yandex. Transport” shows the traffic movement of Kyiv, Zhitomir, Korosten, Uzhgorod, Kamenets-Podolsky. In Dnepr, Lviv, Odessa and Kharkov, all functions are now available except for real-time traffic

An app that doesn’t have a real-time traffic map but covers 1,200 cities around the world is Moovit. It can be safely called a godsend for tourists, and Moovit is positioned as an ideal guide for those who want to get out of unknown distances.

 

 

To successfully build a route, only two parameters are needed: the current location and the destination. Moovit will do the rest. By optimally combining various types of public transport and clearly plotting the route on the built-in map, it will take the user anywhere. In additional settings, the user is also allowed to select his preferred modes of transport.

 

The users themselves help the service keep the database up to date. The built-in level-up system simultaneously plays the role of the now fashionable gamification and allows you to guarantee the authenticity of the route.
