Design
The body of the Acer Swift Edge 16 SFE16-43 is made of magnesium alloy, which is its key design feature. At first glance, it seems plastic, but the feeling of strength and durability does not disappear. The use of magnesium instead of aluminum has reduced weight and in general the laptop body is fragile and elegant. The interesting color also contributes to this. It is mostly almost matte black, but has a greenish tint (called Olivine Black). Somewhat reminiscent of the color of vintage Jaguar cars. All outer panels of the case and the area around the keyboard are made in this color.
The casing is resistant to fingerprints thanks to its color and texture. It has a rough and pleasant to the touch surface. The screen cover can be easily opened with one hand. The webcam is usually located above the screen.
The display has fairly thin bezels, although the top and bottom are slightly wider than the sides.
The keyboard in this generation uses space more efficiently and again there is not much space on the sides. In the previous generation there was more free space. The touchpad is large, squeezing almost to the very top.
At the bottom, four small rubber feet raise the body above the surface. The ventilation grille is almost half of the lower surface. Heat pipes and fans are visible through it. The lid contributes as an ergolift, but only at large opening angles.
Exterior
The keyboard has a numeric keypad, but the compact body of the model led to some rearrangements of the row of keys on the right side. If the reduced up and down arrows are still a familiar picture, then the plus and minus unusually swapped places with Num Lck and were placed on top.
Above them is a star and division button. The second “Enter” of the digital block was placed in the very corner. And the power button with its excellent texture is still located in the corner of the keyboard field.
The overall ergonomics and placement of all the necessary ports are well thought out. The connectors are distributed along the side edges. To the left of the user are two symmetrical USB-C, and one HDMI and one high-speed USB-A. On the right is a lock connector, another USB Type-A, an audio connector and a card reader for MicroSD. There are also two LEDs indicating system operation and battery charge.
Hardware
The laptop uses a 16-inch diagonal OLED matrix. It has a fairly high resolution of 3200×2000 pixels. This is a ratio of 16:10, which has become the standard in recent years. One notable thing is 100% color coverage of the DCI-P3 space. It also has a high refresh rate of 120 Hz. With good content perception, parameters such as a contrast ratio of 1,000,000:1 and a peak brightness of 500 nits are noted. The display is True Black 500 and VESA DisplayHDR certified.
An AMD Ryzen 7 7840U processor is installed, which has 8 Zen 4 cores (16 threads) with 16 MB of L3 cache with a frequency of up to 5.1 GHz. The processor is equipped with integrated Radeon 780M graphics with a frequency of up to 2.7 GHz. It beats the previous year’s top mobile chip, the Ryzen 9 6900X, and is only slightly behind the Intel Core i7-12700H. This is a good result for an economical CPU aimed at portable systems. In integrated graphics, the closest competitor is the GeForce GTX 1650 Ti mobile video card, which is also a great indicator and characteristic of this ultra-compact laptop.
Regarding storage, there are two M.2 SSDs installed here with a PCIe 4.0 x4 interface. Each capacity is 1 TV. Together with 32 GB of LPDDR5 RAM, this creates the highest possible configuration of the model.
This generation also updated the wireless adapter to Wi-Fi 7 (802.11ax).
Autonomy is perhaps the strongest point of this laptop. The 3-cell 54 Wh lithium-polymer battery provides 6 and a half hours in a scenario of working with office programs, medium backlight brightness and communication turned on. The declared 9 branches are quite realistic with complete savings in energy costs.
Impressions
The Acer Swift Edge 16 SFE16-43 laptop is an interesting choice for daily tasks and working with content. The cool OLED display combined with the compact size and lightweight body makes it easy to carry. The presence of different connectors located on different sides allows you to connect the necessary devices. Ergonomics is one of the strengths of this model, and in this generation it is qualitatively improved due to more efficient use of the space around the keyboard and a larger touchpad.
In terms of performance, a powerful processor, fast SSD and sufficient RAM will ensure stable operation in background applications and video chips. As declared model is ready to work with artificial intelligence algorithms. Performance and equipment correspond to the price, extra is overpaid not too much. Although the price exceeds more than thousand dollars, this laptop, as a basic equipped and functioning model, meets modern market requirements.
