Practical budget employee: Dell Venue 8 tablet test
21.07.14Of course, among the epithets for a tablet – high-quality, productive and affordable – there is one inappropriate parameter. And this is due not only to logic, but also to the realities of the market. However, the buyer is increasingly voting with his wallet or stash under his pillow when choosing a fashionable gadget. At first glance, you don’t need many gigahertz for movies, reading and surfing. But let’s be honest: we like a body that is pleasant to the touch much more than creaking panels. And beautiful skins and menu effects are much more than standard blank screens. Well, yes, now we are talking about Android tablets, because no one has done any crafts with iOS yet.
We have already seen 7 and 8 inch compact tablets more than once. For example, the recently tested iconBITNetTabSkatRX and ImPAD 2313 use screens from the iPadMini. In terms of performance, of course, they are lame, but overall they earn their price. And it’s a pleasure to use them, since almost no savings were made on assembly. But what can the more famous Dell brand offer in this format? Let’s be honest, Dell didn’t show itself too confidently in the tablet industry at first. But he kept the brand and did not lose the honor of quality. Another thing is that buyers didn’t really want to pay. Well, yes, it doesn’t happen to anyone.
And so the head office decided to launch a line of tablets with 7- and 8-inch screen diagonals. Inside is Android 4.2.2, running on an Intel Atom Z2580 processor at 2 GHz and 2 GB RAM. Yes, Intel Inside is heard more and more often on the screensavers of mobile gadgets.
And we must say that everything turned out well. On an IPS screen with a resolution of 1280×800, menus do not slow down, heavy games launch without glitches. Camera characteristics are standard: 5 megapixels. main and 2 megapixels. front for video calls. There is a full range of necessary communications: Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS. In addition to the built-in 32 GB, you can install a MicroSD with a maximum capacity of 128 GB. The 4100 mAh battery lasts for 9 hours of moderate use and 4-5 hours for watching movies. All this at 75% screen brightness.
So, here is everything that lower echelon brands often selectively sacrifice for the sake of price. So how much do they want for Venue 8? At the exchange rate at the end of May – $240. And for the Venue 7, a very similar model, but with a 1-inch smaller screen, it costs $175. Both prices are for 16GB of internal memory. Let’s just say it’s competitive.
The only nuance remains that both the “seven” and the “eight” have the same screen resolution. And a higher pixel density looks nicer on a smaller one. Venue 7 also has a slightly worse camera (0.3 megapixels and 3 megapixels), a 400 Hz lower processor frequency and 1 GB of RAM. But we did not notice any brakes that could appear after such a cut.
Thus, you no longer have to suffer, comparing many identical budget tablets, choosing what you don’t mind sacrificing from the characteristics – memory or camera, build or a new version of Android. Take everything at once and buy a famous budget employee!
