GUR: Telegram poses a number of threats to the security of Ukraine
15.02.24What we wrote about a long time ago was finally confirmed by the Main Intelligence Directorate of Ukraine. Andriy Yusov, a representative of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine: “Regarding Telegram, the threats it poses to society are real. It’s not about individual users or individual media presented on this platform, it’s about the platform itself. It includes a number of threats to the information, and not only information security of our country. Yes, this question needs to be answered, and I think that it will definitelyhappen.”
Yusov added that, unfortunately, there is no magic button that turns off everything that threatens. Therefore, Ukraine is now building communication with the administrations of all platforms, including Telegram, in order to work according to transparent rules: both in accordance with Ukrainian legislation and in accordance with international standards.
The issue of the danger of Telegram and other social networks, especially for the military, has recently been raised and discussed several times, including at the highest state levels – at the end of September 2023, the National Council for Television and Radio Broadcasting of Ukraine , together with relevant departments, began actively considering the issue of regulating the messenger Telegram. This is mainly due to the spread of propaganda and hatred on the platform, as well as its use by the Russians to spread their narratives.
