Xiaomi 11T smartphone review: flagship for everybody
22.11.21
Xiaomi, being the leader in many smartphone markets in the world, offers not only clearly positioned budget, mid-range and flagship models, but also compromise options of its own. Those that allow you to choose the individual set of characteristics and equipment that the user needs. Let’s say don’t chase the processor, but choose a camera.
Xiaomi 11T and its older version 11T Pro from the beginning of October already available in Ukraine. We would call them representatives of budget flagships. The models are characterized by top-end filling and reasonable prices.
Both have large AMOLED displays with a frequency of 120 Hz, and the main camera module is 108 megapixels in size. The differences between the models lie in the chipset: the older 11T Pro received the flagship Qualcomm Snapdragon 888, while the younger 11T is content with MediaTek Dimensity 1200.
The older one has other additions, in particular Harman Kardon speakers and Dolby Vision support. Much more significant is the 11T Pro’s support for 120W wired fast charging. While the 11T has a power of 67 W. In fact, this is enough to quickly charge your smartphone. Now let’s talk about everything in order.
Exterior
The Xiaomi 11T has tempered Gorilla Glass Victus glass panels on the front and back. Despite the gorilla’s stated ambitions, a protective film is also applied from the factory. The screen occupies 85% of the body area. The frames around it are not the thickest, but for some reason it was assumed that they would stand out less in the overall design. In fact, we can’t say that they look massive thanks to their elongated proportions and generally rather large diagonal of 6.67 inches.
Along the perimeter of the case there is a metal frame with a matte finish, on which, in fact, all the buttons, sensors and holes are located. Volume and power controls are on the right side. Along with turning it on, the button also combines a fingerprint sensor. It is curious that the short ends at the top and bottom have different shapes. The top one is flat, as if cut off, and the bottom one is rounded. Both areas for connectors and sensors are highlighted with gloss.
The external speaker has a stereo configuration, so its grille is on both the top and bottom edges. There is also an IR port on top, and USB Type-C and a card tray on the bottom. It holds two nanoSIMs, with both slots supporting 5G. But memory cards cannot be reinstalled. The left side remained free.
The back has a metallic finish and is available in Celestial Blue, Meteorite Gray and Moonlight White. It reflects light beautifully, but is also easily covered with fingerprints. You can avoid this by wearing the supplied transparent case on your smartphone.
It will also protect the protruding lenses of the main camera from scratches. The Xiaomi 11T case does not have protection from dust and moisture, but the older Xiaomi 11T Pro does not have it either.
Overall, the smartphone fits well in the hand, not least thanks to the noticeable weight and shape of the case.
Display
Xiaomi 11T is equipped with a flat 6.67-inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 2400 x 1080. The touch screen reads touches at a frequency of 480 Hz, and the image is updated at a frequency of 120 Hz, due to which the input accuracy and interface responsiveness are at a high level.
In automatic mode, the screen can switch between frequencies of 30, 90, 60 and 120 Hz depending on the type of content being played on the screen. There is a mode in the settings to eliminate flicker (DC dimming), but it is only available at a frequency of 60 Hz.
In addition, the smartphone screen complies with HDR10+ standard specifications. The display brightness reaches 800 cd/m2 on a white background and 100 cd/m2 when displaying HDR content. Several color profiles are available in the display settings. The default profile is “Advanced”, but “Original Hue” and “Saturated” are also available. The content looks great, both static and dynamic, like videos and games.
Performance
Xiaomi 11T is powered by a chipset MediaTek Dimensity 1200which has integrated ARM Mali-G77 MP9 graphics. The Dimensity 1200 configuration includes eight cores (1 + 3 + 4), the main one being the Cortex-A78 core, which operates at 3.0 GHz. Additionally, three more Cortex-A78 with a frequency of 2.6 Hz and four energy-efficient Cortex-A55 operating at a frequency of 2.0 Hz are installed.
In terms of performance, this solution is somewhere between the Snapdragon 780G and Snapdragon 865. Considering the realities of optimized content and already high performance, in practice it is more than enough for the vast majority of tasks. The smartphone copes well with modern games, however, the frequency of 120 Hz is not available in all of them. It is important that the heating of the body, even under maximum load, of the Xiaomi 11T is moderate.
The amount of LPDDR4x RAM in all configurations is 8 GB, and the amount of internal memory can be 128 GB or 256 GB. Note that the 11T supports the function of expanding RAM through the drive. In this case, it is possible to add 3 GB.
Operating system
Xiaomi 11T runs on Android 11 OS, on top of which the proprietary MIUI 12.5 shell is installed. Buyers can count on updating to Android 12, 13 and 14. In addition to proprietary Xiaomi applications, the system also includes some third-party applications by default, including Amazon, Facebook and TikTok. As we already said in the review Mi 11 Lite , MIUI 12.5 is a very nice shell without any obvious shortcomings. The smartphone works very quickly and responsively with it.
Application shortcuts can be placed on desktops or called up from a separate menu. A traditional drop-down curtain design is available with buttons at the top and notifications at the bottom. There is also a new option where buttons and notifications are separated into separate curtains. There are light and dark themes well adapted to different menus. The selfie camera can be hidden behind a horizontal black stripe if you don’t like the separate cutout.
Xiaomi 11T also supports Bluetooth 5.2 and NFC. The USB Type-C port supports only the USB 2.0 interface and replaces the audio jack. The kit includes an adapter from USB to audio jack. The smartphone also supports Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax).
Camera
Like the older 11T Pro, Xiaomi 11T is equipped with a 108-megapixel main triple camera with f/1.75 aperture, which shoots at 12 megapixels by default. In good lighting, the camera takes really good pictures with great detail and a wide dynamic range. As lighting deteriorates, the picture in the photo becomes warmer, but the image quality is still at a high level. Night photography is good for the Xiaomi 11T – there are no aggressive algorithms. The main camera supports 4K video recording at 30 fps. Digital stabilization is used, not optical, but it is quite good.
The ultra-wide-angle camera resolution is 8 megapixels at f/2.2, and the viewing angle is 120 degrees. The image quality is quite good, but the white balance and detail are not ideal. The “super macro” mode uses an additional camera with an f/2.4 telephoto lens, which focuses at a distance of 3-7 cm to the subject.
The resolution of the front camera is 16 megapixels. It takes high-quality pictures and copes more or less well with software background blur.
Battery
Xiaomi 11T has a 5000 mAh battery. It is worth noting that the optimized processor and software shell in combination with it provide good autonomy. In a synthetic test simulating daily operation, the device worked for more than 13 hours. He was able to play the video for 23 hours. Wireless charging is not supported in this model. But charging from the included 67 W power supply takes only 45 minutes, which is actually a great indicator.
Impressions
Xiaomi T-series smartphones can truly be a full-fledged alternative to modern flagships. The use of an optimized processor made it possible not only to make the 11T version cheaper, but also not to suffer from heating or occasional lags in operation. In fact, Mi 11T is a more than successful solution for everyday use with a variety of applications, games and active work with the Internet. The same applies to ergonomics and autonomy.
It has the usual flat display with high brightness and a refresh rate of 120 Hz. There is a good 108 megapixel camera that will allow you to take high-quality photos. Even after active use, the charge can be refilled just as quickly – in just over 40 minutes. Long-term support for Android updates is also important. So the company succeeded in making the Xiaomi 11T a long-lasting smartphone and relevant for more than one year of use.
