The new DisplayHDR 1.2 standard has increased color requirements
10.05.24The Video Electronics Standards Association (VESA) has released an updated standard for certifying high dynamic range displays. The new DisplayHDR specifications version 1.2 set more stringent requirements for brightness, color gamut, contrast and color accuracy. The updated standard affects all levels, but the main changes are noticeable in the base DisplayHDR 400 level.
To be certified to this standard, displays must use an 8-bit (+FRC) matrix, have at least 99% sRGB and 90% DCI-P3 color coverage, have a static contrast ratio of at least 1300:1, and provide HDR color fidelity. Delta-TP<8 mode. Requirements for other VESA DisplayHDR certification levels are listed in the table.
Display manufacturers can already begin certifying their devices to the DisplayHDR 1.2 standard. However, the possibility of passing DisplayHDR 1.1 certification remains until May 2025, and for laptop screens the transition period will last until May 2026.
