NVIDIA has released the FrameView application for measuring the performance and power consumption of video cards
11.07.19
NVIDIA has released an application called FrameView, designed to measure the performance and power consumption of video cards.
NVIDIA FrameView is free and available for anyone to download.
It is stated that FrameView has virtually no impact on performance during tests. To track current data, there is a built-in overlay, the position of which on the screen can be changed.
According to NVIDIA, the FrameView application is distinguished by the high accuracy of the data obtained, which many existing similar solutions cannot boast of.
FrameView can collect data in almost all modern games due to support for a large number of APIs (DirectX 9, 10, 11, 12, OpenGL, Vulkan and Universal Windows Platform).
By measuring performance and power consumption, FrameView helps you conveniently evaluate such a parameter as the number of FPS per Watt of energy expended.
The developer specifically emphasizes that correct determination of power consumption when using AMD video cards is not guaranteed.
By the way, pay attention to the official “FPS/W” slide. It is clearly visible how much more noticeable, in terms of energy efficiency, was the transition from the GTX 9XX (Maxwell architecture) to GTX 10XX (Polaris architecture) compared to the transition from the GTX 10XX to the new RTX 20XX (Turing architecture).
All tracked data is saved in a special log file.
Judging by the name of the file currently available for download, NVIDIA FrameView is still in beta form. Perhaps because of this, using a video card powered by NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980 to get acquainted with FrameView, we were unable to obtain power consumption data.
