Samsung Exynos 5400 5G modem provides two-way satellite communication
25.04.24
Samsung has unveiled the new Exynos 5400 5G modem, which powers its flagship Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24+ smartphones and will also be built into several next-gen Google Pixel devices. This modem, made using 4 nm technology, provides support for NTN networks and download speeds of up to 14.79 Gbps.
Exynos 5400 is the first Samsung modem with integrated support for NB-IoT NTN and NR NTN networks. This allows devices equipped with this modem to have two-way satellite communication for messaging even without access to a cellular network, which can be useful, for example, for the emergency SOS function.
The modem supports multiple frequency bands for 5G networks and achieves high download speeds of up to 14.79 Gbps thanks to its dual NR link support. It is also capable of combining multiple carriers for total download speeds of up to 11.2 Gbps in the FR1 frequency band. Samsung notes that the Exynos 5400 is the most energy-efficient 5G modem, thanks to Samsung Foundry’s 4nm EUV process technology.
