Review, comparison, pros and cons: Glo Hyper or lil SOLID? What to choose?

It seems that the world is running out of smokers. We hope, because they are abandoning or switching to alternative technologies en masse. One of my friends gave up cigarettes and got himself an IQOS, a friend goes with Lil, and a colleague – s glo. All three at some point experimented, some with vapes, some with liquid electronic cigarettes. But in the end we settled on those gadgets called tobacco heaters. What’s the catch? Instead of cigarette smoke and steam, there is an aerosol in which there are no combustion products or carcinogens, and in general there are several times fewer harmful substances than in cigarettes. The aerosol quickly dissipates and no odor remains. Hair, hands and clothes do not stink, and the smell does not stagnate at home or in the car either.

The clear leader among tobacco heating systems has remained for several years now. IQOS. He became a pioneer in this market and in fact created a trend for less harmful gadgets for smokers. Just as there can be no modern smartphones without the iPhone, there are no tobacco heating systems without IQOS. More than 15 million smokers have already switched to this gadget around the world.

IQOS has a recognizable and unique design. The gadget consists of two elements: a holder and a charger. Each of them has a built-in battery. Holder—small, designed for 1 or 2 sticks in a row (depending on the model ). Thus, the developer managed to make the holder miniature and compact, designed to be held simply with your fingers. The charger has a larger and more powerful battery to recharge the holder between uses. It’s enough for a whole pack of sticks.

No one has really been able to reproduce the technology of the IQOS holder. Therefore, other well-known heating systems on the market have a different design: – “all in one” . For example, glo, lil SOLID, Jouz, So, not just IQOS, I’ll tell you about heating systems for monolithic format tobacco.

I’ll take two of the most interesting and “strong” gadgets: Glo Hyper(this is the best model in the glo assortment) and lil SOLID (new product for 2020 from IQOS, with an interesting history).

Review of lil SOLID (Lil Solid): what is it, characteristics, pros, cons

lil SOLID is a tobacco heating device originally from South Korea, a country of high technology and cool electronics. The gadget was developed by KT&G. Thanks to the partnership between IQOS and KT&G, lil was able to expand beyond the Korean market and even appear here. In fact, lil is the second line of the IQOS brand, a little more accessible to users, but not inferior in quality.

lil SOLID costs 599 UAH. All the standard IQOS goodies apply to it: discounts from a friend, upgrade to a top model at a special price, free replacement under warranty, etc.

Lil SOLID design and technology

The weight of the device is 84 grams. lil has an oblong matte body, it is comfortable to hold in your hand. Using this gadget is quite simple. There is only one large button on the case, which is responsible for everything: turning on, turning off, rebooting, checking the charge, cleaning by warming up.

Inside the device, tobacco is heated using a special needle. When you insert the stick into the lil, the needle goes into the tobacco. Turn on the device – it heats the tobacco from the inside. The special design of the heating element allows you to heat the tobacco evenly along the entire length of the stick.

A full charge lasts for 20 uses. No breaks to recharge between sessions are needed. The stick heats up until ready in 20 seconds.

The gadget is reliable, both in terms of hardware and software. Resistant to damage, does not glitch, does not freeze.

Flavors and types of sticks for lil SOLID

Lil Solid is designed to be used with two brands — Heets and Fiit. A great selection of 15 types of sticks with different flavors and strengths. There is a choice of tobacco ones with different levels of intensity and a large selection of flavored ones, with almost vape flavors: pineapple, blueberry, menthol, lavender + pear, citrus, etc. There’s definitely plenty to choose from.

Pros and cons of lil SOLID

+  IQOS technology heating from the inside = good taste, not fried paper.

+ 15 stick flavors.

+  Service. IQOS is famous for its user support, for lil users everything is the same.

+/-  The design is simple, even rustic. In the spirit of technological minimalism, of course, but I’m missing something.

– Dimensions. Less than glo, but it would be nice to do even less.

My impressions are that the value of this device exceeds its price. That is, you get more from it than you pay. So I would easily give more for it. For 599 UAH you get a slightly simplified, but still original, and not a copy, version of IQOS.

Glo Hyper review (glo hyper): what it is, characteristics, pros, cons

glo is a line of monolithic tobacco heating systems from British American Tobacco. The brand’s assortment includes two models: glo Pro and glo Hyper. glo Hyper is the newest and most technically advanced model in the line. Moreover, in Glo Hyper the manufacturer managed to fix bugs from previous generations of devices.

glo Hyper costs 299 UAH. The brand announced a long promotion, dropping the price to 300 UAH for both of its models.

Glo design and technology

In terms of dimensions, glo Hyper is larger and heavier than other globs and lilas. Weighs 100 grams. For a pocket device that imitates an almost weightless cigarette, this is a bit much. In shape and size, glo Hyper is closer to vapes than to tobacco heating systems.

But otherwise the device is ergonomic and easy to use – it is controlled by one button on the body. A full battery charge will last for 20 uses.

Glo’s heating process is structured differently than that of IQOS, lil or Jouz. The technology is based on induction heating (copper winding around the heating chamber creates strong magnetic waves, which in turn generate electric currents that raise the surface temperature). The inner walls of the device act as a heating element. That is, the tobacco in the stick is heated in a circle, through the paper, and not from the inside.

In previous glo models, circular heating gave a major failure. Already after the 4-5th puff, the sticks began to stretch weaker and in the end they became completely tasteless and “aerosol-free”. This problem has been fixed in Hyper.

glo Hyper heats up the stick within 20 seconds from the moment it is turned on. But there is another additional feature – this is the Boost mode. In Boost mode, the gadget quickly heats up the stick in just 10-15 seconds. The taste and puff become weaker, but sometimes speed is more important.

Flavors and types of sticks for glo.

Unlike IQOS, which makes all its devices and sticks compatible with each other, glo takes a different path and releases new sticks for the new gadget model that do not fit the previous ones. glo Hyper only works with sticks NEO in demi format, while previous generations of the device require nano format sticks.

Because of this, there are only 6 flavors compatible with Glo Hyper, although they are worthy. There are tobacco ones and exotic ones, like pineapple and pina colada. What’s funny is that there are sticks with capsules.

Pros and cons of glo Hyper

+  Sticks with capsules.

+/- Boost mode, which heats up the stick faster than usual. But the stick loses its taste.

– Few stick flavors. Devices of different models and sticks are incompatible with each other.

– Low quality electronics. For 300 UAH, of course, you don’t expect much from it, but still.

– Weight.

My opinion —the device is worth the money. There are quite a lot of disadvantages, and there are fewer advantages than the same Lil, but the price is cheap. The entry threshold is small, so you’re not afraid to take risks.
