Editorial first impressions: Samsung Galaxy S23, S23+, and S23 Ultra smartphones
01.02.23Samsung held a presentation of the new generation of Galaxy S23 flagship smartphones. The editors of the website hi-Tech.ua had the opportunity to get acquainted with the new products live.
The line, which has already become familiar in recent years, is represented by three models with displays with a diagonal of 6.1, 6.6 and 6.8 inches.
The S23 and S23+ are identical in design. They mostly differ in size. Samsung Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S23+ are available in black, white (it was called cream) and lavender colors.
The S23 and S23+ camera modules are built directly from the plane of the back panel. Now the modules area is not visually distinct. The same applies to the Ultra model, which had an identical appearance and -obychno-i-poluchshe-kamery/” target=”_blank” rel=”noopener”>last year. There are more modules compared to the lower-ranking devices in the line.
The Ultra model, as in recent years, is a symbiosis of the achievements of the established flagship line and the former Note line. It also has straight, non-rounded top and bottom edges, while the younger S23 and S23+ have rounded ends on all sides. Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra received gray, black, dark red and dark green body colors. According to company representatives, the latter is the most popular.
Common
For all three models, the company uses a processor Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. At the presentation, it was signed with the prefix “For Galaxy”. How such an application is expressed will still have to be checked during live device testing by us, if such occurs.
SoC Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 includes three processor units of different performance levels. The chip is manufactured according to 4-nm standards technical process.
It has a Cortex-X3 core clocked at up to 3.36GHz, compared to a maximum of 3.2GHz on the regular Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. Additionally, the Adreno 740 GPU is clocked at 719GHz instead of 680MHz.
Versions with branded Exynos chips will not be available in any of the markets this year.
The new chipset provides improved communication. This includes support for the new 6GHz Wi-Fi 6E as well as Bluetooth 5.3.
The novelties will enter the market with the One UI 5.1 shell.
Smartphone displays are usually cool. The company’s Super AMOLED technology sets the bar for quality, contrast, and clarity every year. As before, they have an under-screen ultrasonic fingerprint scanner.
In all models, the front camera has one 12 MP sensor. It supports HDR10+ and 4K video recording at 60 frames per second.
The trio of smartphones have stereo speakers, IP68 protection against moisture and dust, GPS, Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.3, NFC and USB Type-C version 3.2.
Traditionally, the company offers branded classic cases for all models of the line, as well as options with additions such as a hand strap to keep the 6.8-inch S23 Ultra in place, or charge it with an external battery module that attaches to the case.
What about the Galaxy S23 Ultra?
Significant additions compared to younger models in the Galaxy S23 Ultra are a 200 MP main camera sensor and an S Pen.
The S Pen has been slightly improved. It is also highly sensitive to pressure and tilt angle, allowing you to react to these parameters during use. Also, the smart stylus can work as a remote control. We are sure that every year there will be more and more chips with him.
The optical stabilization of the 200-megapixel camera module received additional freedom. The lens oscillates in the range of 3 degrees, compared to 1.5 degrees in the previous generation.
Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra received a 6.8-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with a resolution of 3088×1440 pixels and HDR10+ support. It has an adaptive refresh rate that can take values from 1 to 120 Hz. The screen is protected by tempered glass Gorilla Glass Victus 2.
Storage options – 256 GB, 512 GB and 1 TB, and RAM – 8 or 12 GB of LPDDR5 type.
It has the same 5,000mAh battery as last year, with 45W wired charging and 10W wireless charging.
The model has a total of five camera modules: the main one will receive sensors for 200 + 12 + 10 and another 10 Mpix.
Basic and “plus”
Samsung Galaxy S23 received a 6.1-inch Super AMOLED display panel.
Samsung Galaxy S23+ has a 6.6-inch screen.
Both will have FHD+ resolution, an adaptive refresh rate from 48 to 120 Hz, HDR10+ support, and Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protection.
These two will have only one RAM variant – 8 GB. The S23 comes with 128GB or 256GB of storage, while the S23+ will have 256GB or 512GB, just like the Ultra.
The batteries of the Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S23+ have increased slightly compared to the previous generation. The Galaxy S23 is equipped with a 3900 mAh battery and 25 W charging. Galaxy S23+ already has 4700 mAh and 45 W charging.
They have the same cameras. Their three main camera sensors are 50, 12 (wide-angle) and 10 Mpix (3x telephoto). They can record 8K video at 30fps or 4K at 60fps.
