Official: Modular Fairphone 6+ Debuts with Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 and U.S. Availability

Fairphone has officially announced its new smartphone, the Fairphone 6+. The device retains the core modular design principles of its predecessors while introducing key hardware improvements. The most significant change compared to the base Fairphone 6 is a 50% increase in RAM—now offering 12 GB instead of 8 GB—along with the integration of the modern Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 processor.

Specifications and Technical Equipment

The Fairphone 6+ is equipped with a 6.31-inch LTPO OLED display with a resolution of 1116×2484 pixels and a 120 Hz refresh rate. High-quality photography is handled by a 50-megapixel main camera based on the Sony Lytia 700C sensor with Optical Image Stabilization (OIS), complemented by a 13-megapixel ultra-wide-angle module. A 32-megapixel selfie camera is located on the front panel.

Autonomy is provided by a 4415 mAh battery with 30W fast charging support. The device ships with Android 16 pre-installed, and the manufacturer promises six major system updates. Security patches are expected to be provided for the smartphone until 2032 or 2033.

Colors and U.S. Availability

In addition to new technical specs, the smartphone is now available in a new Cobalt Blue color, joining the existing Forest Green and Horizon Black options. A major milestone is the expansion to the U.S. market; the device is now officially available to American customers via the manufacturer’s website and Amazon. The European price is set at €649, with the U.S. market price established at $649.

What Sets the Fairphone 6+ Apart from Other Smartphones

  • Modular Design and 12 Replaceable Parts: The smartphone is not glued shut. Users can easily disassemble it themselves using a single standard screwdriver (included in the box). The unit features 12 independent modules. If your screen cracks, the battery wears out, or the USB-C port breaks, there is no need to visit a service center. You simply buy the part from the manufacturer’s website at an affordable price (e.g., a new USB-C port costs around $20, and a battery is $40) and replace it at home in 5 minutes. More complex components (microphones, side buttons, and the fingerprint scanner) can be replaced at authorized service centers. Spare parts will be available until 2033, and the device comes with a five-year warranty.
  • Removable Battery: While modern smartphones have batteries tightly glued into the chassis, the Fairphone 6+ allows you to simply remove the back cover and take out the battery by hand. This not only makes it easy to replace a degraded battery after a few years but also allows you to carry a spare to charge your phone to 100% instantly without needing a power bank.
  • Ethical Production and Sustainability: More than 50% of the materials used in the device are fair-trade or fully recycled. The company tracks its entire supply chain, ensuring fair wages for workers in factories and mines. The device is 100% carbon-neutral regarding electronic waste.
