Acer Predator Helios 18 AI (PH18-73) laptop review: god-mode
16.03.26
Flagship gaming laptops are increasingly being marketed as full-fledged desktop replacements. The Predator Helios 18 AI (PH18-73) falls into this category. Acer’s new product features top-of-the-line Intel Core Ultra processors, GeForce RTX 50-series graphics cards, a Mini LED display, and a suite of AI features designed not only for gaming but also for content creation.
Technically, this model is designed for enthusiasts, eSports players, and users who demand maximum performance in a portable form factor. Essentially, it’s a complete mobile workstation with a gaming focus, capable of replacing a desktop PC.
Design and Construction

The Acer Predator Helios 18 AI is an 18-inch notebook with a massive bottom and a relatively elegant lid due to the thickness of the display. The chassis combines an aluminum top cover with plastic elements on the base and work surface. The main color is dark Abyssal Black with contrasting details and the signature style of the Predator line.

Despite its impressive size, the manufacturer has strived to maintain relative portability. The case thickness ranges from 17 to 29.5 mm when open and closed. It weighs approximately 3.2 kg.

The laptop’s design emphasizes its gaming focus. In addition to the logo on the lid, there’s backlighting on the front edge, stripes under the keyboard on the right, and panels under the glass behind the lid. The lighting is customizable in PredatorSense, allowing you to play with a combination of animations and color changes. The full-key RGB backlighting on the keyboard deserves special mention. Bright and contrasting, it’s perfect for both work and gaming. And, of course, it’s a stunning addition to the device.

A notable feature is the MagKey 4.0 system. It includes replacement WASD and arrow keys with mechanical switches and magnetic actuation. They provide a more precise response and mimic the feel of a mechanical keyboard. The actuation travel is approximately 0.7 mm. The key layout is excellent, with the power button, as always, located in the keypad in the upper right corner.

The laptop is equipped with a wide range of ports, distributed across the sides and the rear of the lower half of the case. The layout is convenient – there’s nothing to complain about. Ports include:
- 2 x Thunderbolt 5 (up to 80 Gbps);
- HDMI 2.1;
- USB-A;
- RJ-45 Ethernet;
- SD slot;
- Audio jack.
Hardware

One of the model’s key features is its 18-inch display with a 16:10 aspect ratio. High-end configurations use a Mini LED panel with a resolution of 3840×2400 (4K WQUXGA).
Narrow bezels and a screen-to-body ratio of over 90% create a striking display lid, offsetting the contrasting overall dimensions. The display is truly large, especially compared to previously more popular 17-inch models. It’s only 1 inch, but the large viewing area is immediately noticeable.
The Predator Helios 18 AI laptop is equipped with processors up to the Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX. These chips combine high computing power and an integrated NPU for accelerated AI tasks. This is a top-of-the-line 24-core (8P+16E) mobile processor based on the Arrow Lake architecture, operating at up to 5.4 GHz. The TDP is 55 W and supports DDR5-6400 memory.

The presence of a neural processor allows the CPU and GPU to be unloaded when processing tasks such as:
- noise reduction;
- autoframing in the camera;
- image processing;
- background AI effects.
It also supports Intel Application Optimization, a technology that improves performance in certain games by optimizing processor operation.
To cool the powerful hardware, an updated dual-fan system with sixth-generation AeroBlade 3D technology is used. These fans feature ultra-thin metal blades (0.05 mm thick) and can dynamically change shape to optimize airflow.
According to the manufacturer, this provides up to a 20% improvement in airflow compared to conventional plastic fans.

The laptop is equipped with graphics cards up to the GeForce RTX 5090, based on Nvidia’s Blackwell architecture. In our case, it’s the RTX 5080, with a slightly lower TGP than previously found in other models – 165W.
Its Nvidia GB203 GPU, manufactured using a 5nm process, includes 7,680 CUDA cores, 240 texture units, 96 raster units, 60 RT cores, and 240 tensor cores. In this laptop model, the maximum dynamic GPU frequency reaches 1550 MHz. Thanks to the mobile Nvidia GeForce RTX 5080, we can play games at 2560×1600 resolution at maximum settings with 120+ frames per second.
Features of the GeForce RTX 5000 series graphics include:
- DLSS 4 support with Multi Frame Generation;
- New Tensor and RT Cores;
- Reflex 2 and Advanced Optimus technologies;
- Accelerated generative graphics and rendering.

The laptop features a six-speaker system with DTS:X Ultra support. Communications are supported by a three-microphone system and PurifiedVoice 2.0 technology, which uses AI to suppress background noise.
The webcam supports PurifiedView 2.0, a suite of image enhancement features. Wireless connectivity includes Wi-Fi 7 and Killer DoubleShot Pro.
Battery Life
The laptop has a 99 Wh battery with fast charging support. Given the powerful hardware, it’s primarily used while plugged in, but the battery is sufficient for a couple of tasks. Two hours of battery life is already a decent amount for such a powerful laptop.

Impressions
The Acer Predator Helios 18 AI (PH18-73) is a high-performance gaming laptop designed as a desktop replacement. It combines a powerful next-generation CPU and GPU, a large dual-mode Mini LED display, an advanced cooling system, and modern interfaces. These features elevate this model beyond the limits of typical gaming laptops, bringing it closer to mobile workstations.
This model is designed for enthusiasts and professionals who require high performance in a mobile format. With its combination of RTX 50-series graphics, Core Ultra processors, and AI capabilities, the laptop is equally suited for gaming and heavy content creation.
This premium design is underscored by high-quality build quality, comfortable ergonomics, and a generous selection of peripheral ports. The design and lighting are purely gaming-oriented, although turning them off yields a serious black model suitable for more than just entertainment.
