Garmin Beta 18.29: What’s New for Popular Smartwatches
05.09.26
Garmin has released new software for a range of its mid-range smartwatches. The update, dubbed Beta 18.29, replaces the previous 18.27 test version that debuted in late August 2026.
Supported Devices List
The new firmware is available for six current wearable models:
- Forerunner 70
- Forerunner 170
- Forerunner 570
- Forerunner 970
- Venu X1
- Vivoactive 6
Key Changes and Fixes
While the August update included over a dozen changes, version 18.29 focuses on a narrower set of tasks. The main addition is a fix for an issue that caused the silent alarm feature to malfunction. Developers also included a series of general fixes for “minor issues” that remain unspecified.
Voice Prompt Tweaks
A significant change concerns the behavior of audio cues: on the Forerunner 570, Forerunner 970, Venu X1, and Forerunner 170 Music, voice prompts should no longer play while in silent mode. It is worth noting that this functional update does not apply to the Forerunner 70, Vivoactive 6, or the base Forerunner 170 model without Wi-Fi support.
