Apple iPhone 18 Pro with A20 Pro: 18% Faster or 30% More Efficient
18.08.26
The upcoming Apple iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, and iPhone Ultra are set for an official mid-September debut. Compared to the previous generation (the iPhone 17 Pro currently retails on Amazon for $1,057 / €978 / 44,656 UAH), these new models will feature significant upgrades, including a revamped camera with variable aperture and the Apple A20 Pro — the company’s first 2nm ARM chip.
Benefits of the 2nm Apple A20 Pro Chip
According to an insider leak from Fixed Focus Digital, the transition to a 2nm production process will increase manufacturing costs but deliver substantial gains in both performance and power efficiency. The chip is expected to offer an 18% boost in processing power or a 30% reduction in power consumption while maintaining the same performance level. This will allow the Apple A20 Pro to stand out against current market leaders like the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 and MediaTek Dimensity 9500.
Architecture and Memory Optimizations
Beyond the new process node, the Apple A20 Pro will introduce several additional optimizations. Increased spacing between CPU and GPU cores will ensure more efficient thermal management. Furthermore, the adoption of LPDDR6 RAM, connected via a 96-bit interface, is expected to provide significantly higher bandwidth. The AI accelerator is also slated for an upgrade to further speed up Siri AI features.
Performance Comparison: Benchmark Results
Below are the latest performance benchmarks for key competitors in Geekbench 6.7.
Geekbench 6.7 / Multi-Core Results
| Device | Score |
| Xiaomi 17T Pro (Dimensity 9500) | 10,042 |
| Apple iPhone 17 Pro Max (A19 Pro) | 10,017 |
| Sony Xperia 1 VIII (SD 8 Elite Gen 5) | 9,631 |
Geekbench 6.7 / Single-Core Results
| Device | Score |
| Apple iPhone 17 Pro Max (A19 Pro) | 3,883 |
| Sony Xperia 1 VIII (SD 8 Elite Gen 5) | 3,542 |
| Xiaomi 17T Pro (Dimensity 9500) | 3,269 |
Competition Outlook
Despite this technological leap, the Apple A20 Pro will soon face stiff competition from the upcoming Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 and Dimensity 9600. The battle for high-end smartphone supremacy in the coming season is shaping up to be intense.
Editorial Verdict
Given rumors of increased production costs, the price of the iPhone 18 Pro could be quite steep (reportedly starting at $1,399 / €1,295 / 59,133 UAH). Nevertheless, the combination of a more advanced process node, the LPDDR6 memory upgrade, and optimized AI makes this device a major step forward compared to the iPhone 17 Pro.
