Xbox is afraid of GTA 6: Fable postponed to 2027
01.06.26
The Xbox division (formerly known as Microsoft Gaming) has officially pushed back the release date of its ambitious Fable reboot. Initially, the release of the RPG was planned for the fall of 2026 on personal computers and consoles, but the developers changed the schedule. Analysts say the main reason for the adjustment is the desire to avoid a direct clash with Grand Theft Auto 6, as well as the tight schedule of Microsoft’s own titles.
New Fable: Game Overview
The new part of Fable is a modern take on the legendary series of fairy-tale role-playing games. Players are promised in-depth development of the open world, classic subtle British humor and the variability of the passage. The project is important to Microsoft’s gaming ecosystem. The game is created with an emphasis on modern visual technologies. The interest in it is so great that the creator of the original series, Peter Molyneux, could not even hold back his emotions and burst into tears when he had to personally see the footage of the rebooted project.
Official Xbox announcement and release date move
Official representatives of the brand announced that the new Fable will appear on the shelves in February 2027. It is noteworthy that the change of plans could be connected with the change of the top management of the gaming division. It will be recalled that during the leadership of Phil Spencer, Xbox publicly adhered to the previously planned release window of autumn 2026 until the last. However, new market realities forced the company to redistribute its resources.
Overloading Microsoft’s fall gaming calendar
Company representatives say that the current gaming period is full of high-profile titles for Microsoft platforms and the release of another big-budget blockbuster would harm the distribution of audience attention. Here is a list of confirmed large-scale novelties:
- Halo: Campaign Evolved
- Gears of War: E-Day
- Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4
- Control Resonant
- Star Wars: Galactic Racer
- Grand Theft Auto VI
Fable vs GTA 6
Despite the argument about an oversaturated release calendar internally, the most obvious threat to Fable’s commercial success remains the launch of Grand Theft Auto VI. The release of the cult franchise from Rockstar Games is scheduled for November 19. Adjacent to such a large-scale hit is always detrimental to other high-budget games in a similar category. The launch of the new Fable in February 2027 will attract the maximum attention of buyers to the relaunch in a calmer “post-holiday” time.
In addition to Fable, due to the intention to avoid direct competition with the new part of GTA, some other publishers are also revising their release schedules. For example, publisher Devolver Digital previously announced the postponement of one of its Devolver Digital projects, and it was also noted that some developers, as in the case of Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra, were changing their plans.
