Up to 50% off PlayStation Plus: How Sony is trying to keep subscribers

Sony Interactive Entertainment has launched a new promotion for PlayStation Plus subscribers, offering personal discounts of up to 50% to users trying to cancel their subscription.

Promo details

Information about special offers began to be distributed en masse by users of the Reddit community. According to the players, the discount mechanism is activated exclusively during the procedure of canceling the continuation of the service at the final stage. Thus, the system tries to retain a customer who has already decided to leave.

Amount of discounts and tariff conditions

The size of the discount depends on the selected subscription plan:

  • The most profitable offers (up to 50%) are mainly applied to the PlayStation Plus Extra plan for a period of 3 months.
  • Annual plans receive smaller discounts: 25% is most common, but some users report options with a 33% discount.

Communication with company policy

The appearance of this promotion coincided with high-profile news about Sony’s plans to stop producing physical game media for the PS5 console from 2028. There has been a massive debate online, with many gamers openly calling for a boycott of PlayStation Plus as a protest against the company’s total shift to digital distribution of games.

Should you respond to the offer?

At the moment, it cannot be unequivocally stated that the action is Sony’s direct response to community protests. Perhaps this is a standard target marketing tool for preventing churn. Despite the attractive terms, many users note that even a discount will not make them continue their subscription until the company revises its policy on physical media.
