Google Chrome has updated AI Mode: parallel browsing of websites and intelligent search across tabs.
21.04.26
Google has introduced an update for the Chrome desktop browser that allows users to open web pages alongside the AI Mode window.
Enhanced integration of AI Mode with web pages
The new feature enables users to browse a website while simultaneously interacting with AI-powered search. After clicking a link, the page opens in a side panel, eliminating the need to exit AI Mode or constantly switch between tabs.
Developers note that this approach significantly simplifies comparing information, verifying sources, and asking follow-up questions without losing overall context. The updated interface structure makes working with data more linear, allowing users to view both search results and website content at the same time.
Context-aware tab search and expanded capabilities
AI Mode can now use the content of an open page together with data from the web to generate responses. For example, when choosing a product, a user can open a store page and immediately ask the AI questions about specifications or usage details based on the product description. This deeper integration helps the system better understand the user’s current tasks.
In addition, the update introduces the ability to perform searches based on all open tabs. In Chrome’s search menu on both desktop and mobile devices, a new option allows users to include recent tabs in their queries. This makes it possible to combine content from multiple tabs, images, or files into a single context for AI Mode. The update is currently available in the United States, with Google planning to expand access to other regions in the near future.
