DJI Neo 2 mini drone gets lidar and 4K video support

After the presentation of the Osmo 360 panoramic camera, DJI introduced the new Neo 2 minidrone – a compact model of the same size, which rejected the low-tech updates characteristic of the older devices of the brand. Developers have thoroughly improved the stabilization system, camera, energy efficiency and unique code switching features. The global debut of the drone is scheduled for November 13th.

What’s new in the next generation of DJI Neo?

The DJI Neo 2 model has become even larger and more important than its predecessor: its weight is 151 grams, or 160 grams with a video transmission module (versus 135 grams for the first version). The dimensions also increased to 147×171×41 mm, and with the module – to 167×171×54 mm. Regardless of the fluidity of the polish, the range of communication and time, the work lost the same as in the previous model.

DJI Neo 2 Features

The drone removed the updated battery with a capacity of 1606 mAg (11.5 Wh), replacing the old one with 1435 mAg. The storage capacity is from 32 to 49 GB, which allows you to save more videos without needing to replace the microSD card.

The Neo 2 retains a 1/2-inch sensor, but has a wider field of view of 119.8°, equivalent to a 16.5mm focal length and f/2.2 aperture. The camera can record video in 4K format at a frequency of 60 or 100 frames per second. The ISO range has now been expanded to 100-12800, and the maximum video bitrate has increased to 80 Mbps. For navigation, three satellite systems are used – BeiDou, Galileo and GPS.

Among the main updates is a unique transcoding system based on the front LiDAR sensor, which works simultaneously with a dual stabilizer. Therefore, the image is no longer stable due to rain or windy weather. In addition, the drone supports gestures, which allows you to start shooting or change the flow without using a controller.

In China, the DJI Neo 2 is already on sale at a starting price of 1,499 yuan (about $211), which is 200 yuan more expensive than the previous model. The company also offers expanded kits:

• version for $281 with additional batteries and charging case;
• set for $351 with RC-N3 controller;
• flagship kit for $520 with Motion 3 controller and Goggles N3 eyepieces.
