Xiaomi YU7 GT showed the impossible: a car without a driver on a legendary track

Xiaomi YU7 GT electric crossover set the first unmanned record at the Nürburgring. The Chinese technology giant brought an autonomous modification of the car to the track, which successfully coped with the extreme sports track without the slightest involvement of the driver. This run was a demonstration of Xiaomi’s autopilot capabilities under critical dynamic loads.

How was the race

According to Xiaomi’s official statement, the completely unmanned electric crossover system has overcome the iconic 20.8 km Nurburgring ring. without a person in the cabin. The recorded entry time on the North Loop was 10 minutes 29.483 seconds.

This most challenging race track has more than 70 corners, many sharp drops and braking zones, requiring the systems to react instantly to changes in the grip of the tires on the road. The successful run of the YU7 GT confirms the high adaptability of the brand’s sensors and software on a track of extreme difficulty.

Technical specifications

A productive version of the crossover was prepared for unmanned tests. The model is equipped with an advanced electrical system and efficient units:

  • Engines: Dual V8S EVO electric unit developing a total power of 738 kW, equal to 1003 horsepower.
  • Dynamic characteristics: Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h takes just 2.92 seconds, and the peak speed is limited to 300 km/h.
  • Power architecture: 897-volt platform based on silicon carbide cells.
  • Battery: Traction battery with a capacity of 101.7 kWh with a specialized system of forced cooling of battery blocks against overheating during long track piloting.
  • Charging capabilities: Fast charging technology allows you to fill up a resource of 570 kilometers of power reserve in 15 minutes.

Autopilot vs human: who goes faster

During the finalization of this series, professional driver Zhen Zhouchan set a full-fledged record for this category of cars with a person behind the wheel – 7 minutes 34.931 seconds. The unmanned driving of autonomous algorithms yielded to a real person by about three minutes.

The current lag is due to conservative autopilot calibration. The logic of the AI is designed and optimized to maintain the maximum safety corridor, while the driver aims to squeeze the absolute speed result from the car with the accompanying risks. At the current stage, the final time of the YU7 GT matches the leisurely driving pace of the car enthusiasts in the free practice sessions.

Features of the electric car market of the brand

With the significant development of drone software, Xiaomi is observing some decline in demand in the traditional sales sector. In May 2026, dealers managed to sell 8,736 cars on the Chinese car market, which reflects a decrease in buyer activity by 11.5% compared to the results of the previous accounting month.
