Pixel 11 Pro XL Charging Overview

The Google Pixel 11 Pro XL, priced from $1,299, supports USB-C fast charging at up to 45W. On paper, this is identical to its predecessor, the Pixel 10 Pro XL. However, Google claims improved speeds: the new flagship is expected to charge from 0 to 75 percent in 30 minutes, whereas the previous model reached only 70 percent under similar conditions.

Testing Results and Power Output

The experts at Android Authority conducted thorough testing of the Pixel 11 Pro XL power system and confirmed that progress has indeed been made. At the start of the charging cycle, the power output is 40.7W, while last year’s model peaked at about 35W. This power level is maintained for nine minutes, after which the smartphone gradually reduces power to prevent battery overheating and degradation. The total time for a full charge has been reduced to 69 minutes, which is 12 minutes faster than the previous device.

Adapter Requirements and Extreme Mode Hurdles

To achieve these results, one must use a USB-C Power Delivery adapter that supports 21 volts and 2 amps. It is worth noting that even some powerful 67W or 100W bricks do not meet this standard. Furthermore, even when using a compatible adapter, charging to 75 percent still takes five minutes longer than the manufacturer claimed. The reason lies in a software bug: during testing, it was impossible to consistently activate the new “extreme charging mode.”

Extreme Charging Mode Nuances

Introduced with the Pixel 11 series, this mode is designed to speed up charging cycles by allowing higher temperatures and enforcing processor throttling. According to specifications, the mode can be activated via the Quick Settings menu, provided the battery is below 50 percent and a compatible power adapter is connected. However, according to Android Authority, the current software suffers from a common bug: the option only unlocks after a specific amount of time, significantly hindering the use of this feature.

The Fix?

Given the identified software issues, Pixel 11 Pro XL users should look forward to future system updates. Although the physical improvement in charging speed has been confirmed by tests, the real-world efficiency of the “extreme charging mode” technology remains limited due to software bugs. Despite these challenges, the Pixel 11 Pro XL charges 12 minutes faster than its predecessor, making the daily use of the device slightly more convenient.
