Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra: progress in the field of displays

The latest leaks provide the first real look at Samsung’s highly anticipated foldable smartphone. Unlike previous materials, which featured only dummies, the video published by insider Setsuna Digital on the social network Weibo shows a working sample of the device, which is most likely the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra smartphone. The main feature of the new product is the almost complete absence of folds on the display.

Features of the folding display

The video footage clearly shows that during everyday use the smartphone display looks incredibly smooth. Although at certain angles you may still notice a slight shadow at the fold, in most situations the fold is not visually noticeable. Experts note that the device is approaching the level of screen quality of the Oppo Find N6, which previously set the standards in this niche.

What is known about the development and the hinge

Renowned analyst Ice Universe has confirmed that the standard Galaxy Z Fold 8 will also feature the same high-quality panels. Moreover, there are rumors that the standard version may even outperform the Ultra model shown in the video and the crease will be even less noticeable thanks to the use of thicker glass material (UTG). However, the main reason for the fold’s stealth and innovation is the redesigned hinge design.

Important nuances and durability

Despite the technological breakthrough, experts warn of possible pitfalls. The new mechanics of the hinge, which ensures no bending, is still the subject of discussion: it is not clear entirely how efficiently the mechanism will work after a long service life. Even segment-leading devices like the Oppo Find N6 show visible signs of wear after just 200 folding cycles.

Buy or not?

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra is positioned as a direct competitor to premium devices like the iPhone Ultra. Users for whom the absence of visual distortion on the screen is critical should pay attention to this model. However, it is better to make a purchasing decision after receiving official data on the wear resistance of the hinge, and it is even better to wait for feedback received from users during operation for several months or at least the results of real testing.
