Streaming service Spotify has published financial statements for the first quarter of 2025, recording the highest growth rates in the last 5 years. The number of monthly active users reached 678 million – 10% more than in the same period in 2024. Of these, 268 million are paid subscribers, which is 12% more than a year earlier.

This is the largest quarterly increase in subscribers since 2020. The company notes that the freemium model ensures the stability of the audience even in conditions of economic uncertainty. “The basic indicators are very positive now: acquisition is high, user retention is stable,” said Spotify CEO Daniel Ek.

The service’s total revenue for the first quarter was €4.2 billion – 15% more in annual terms. Gross margin reached 31.6%, up 400 basis points from a year earlier. The company’s operating profit for the three months was €509 million.

2024 was Spotify’s first profitable year. The service paid out more than $10 billion in royalties to musicians, with about 1,500 artists receiving at least $1 million.

Spotify design 2023

Google is improving the capabilities of its voice assistant Gemini, adding support for Spotify. Now users can search, play and browse music using voice commands. To get started, you need to link your Spotify and Google accounts. After that, the assistant will be able to launch songs, albums or playlists, as well as search for music by artist, genre or lyrics.

The function is currently only available on Android and in English, and at the initial stage does not provide for creating playlists or managing radio stations. Despite the limited functionality, the integration opens up new opportunities for more convenient interaction with music services. The official support page has already been published, which indicates a quick launch of the update.
