Samsung is preparing three Galaxy Watch 9 models for the summer announcement

South Korean company Samsung plans to review the schedule and traditional strategy of updating wearable devices. Judging by the update code for the Wear OS operating system, this season users can expect a large-scale replenishment of the line — three new models of Samsung Galaxy Watch 9 smart watches at once as part of a single summer event.

Data discovered by developers in the Wear OS firmware indicates the development of devices under the intriguing code names: Fresh 9, Wise 9 and Project X2. Behind these technical names are the retail versions of the gadgets: the basic watch Samsung Galaxy Watch 9, the advanced Galaxy Watch 9 Classic, as well as the premium extreme smartwatch Galaxy Watch Ultra of the second generation. The main surprise of the release is the long-awaited update of the Classic series, which this time will be released without the standard one-year pause for Samsung.

Technical characteristics and hardware features of the watch

The technical characteristics of the new line of smart watches promise significant hardware differences depending on the version:

• Exynos W1000 processor: The basic Samsung Galaxy Watch 9 and elegant Galaxy Watch 9 Classic will be built on the familiar Exynos W1000 platform. The energy efficiency and computing power of this SoC is quite enough for the comfortable smooth operation of all interface systems without the risk of overheating.
• Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Wear Elite Chipset: Engineers can make an exception for the second-generation Galaxy Watch Ultra flagship protected model. The option of equipping the ultra-version with a chip from Qualcomm is under consideration, which will potentially provide a significant improvement in battery life of the device under harsh field conditions.

The main version differences and the long-awaited return of the physical bezel

The main element of the Classic version’s style is traditionally the rotating physical bezel. The mechanical rotating frame allows the user to instantly flip through the menu of programs and widgets, without covering the information on the relatively small screen of the smart watch with his finger. The company moves to dense market saturation, dividing target groups of buyers without unnecessary compromises:

• Galaxy Watch 9 is a model for the mass market with an emphasis on basic sports functions.
• Galaxy Watch 9 Classic is a reliable premium device for those who prefer traditional watch style and mechanical controls.
• Galaxy Watch Ultra (2 generation) is a durable gadget designed for a long period of autonomy and protection against aggressive environmental influences.

System features

The updated Wear OS system will bring new functional tools. The code mentions the important intelligent raise-to-talk function (activation when the wrist is raised). To communicate with the digital assistant, you will no longer have to speak trigger commands. It is enough to raise your wrist closer to your face and voice the necessary request directly with your voice.

Release date

The retail price of the new products remains unknown, as the devices have not yet been officially announced by the manufacturer. The official presentation of three versions of the Galaxy Watch 9 should take place during a large-scale Samsung event scheduled for July 22. There, the Korean giant will show new complex smartphones of the new generation.
