Legendary Ford Escort RS Mk1 returned to production. 150 units will be produced
22.12.24
Boreham Motorworks has unveiled a reimagined version of the legendary Ford Escort Mk1 RS. The project was carried out with the official permission of Ford Motor, which allows the use of the Escort name and brand logo.
The new Escort Mk1 RS is not a restomod based on an old car. It has been created with a completely new body, developed using digital technology and modern engineering. The car retains the two-door style of the original, produced in Essex until 1975, but has received a reinforced structure, widened wheel arches and an updated rear suspension. Each car will have a unique chassis number, continuing the original production run.
Engine options:
- Modified Twin Cam 1.8 liter (increased from 1.6 liter), 182 hp, equipped with an injection system instead of carburetors. Comes with a 4-speed original transmission.
- Modern 2.1 liter engine with 296 hp, with a forged crankshaft and connecting rods, speeds up to 10,000 rpm, and a 5-speed gearbox with short gear ratios.
The suspension is equipped with coilovers, a differential with automatic traction distribution is installed. The car retains authentic handling without ABS, ESP and power steering, conveying the driving experience of the past.
The design is made in a retro style with modern accents. Instead of chrome bumpers, a sportier look is used, and LED headlights are stylized as cross-ribbons, popular in the 70s. The interior combines original elements, such as a six-dial instrument panel, with modern features, including Apple CarPlay, climate control and updated switches.
The premiere of the Boreham Ford Escort Mk1 RS will take place in the summer of 2025, and production will begin in the autumn. The release is limited to 150 copies, the price starts from 295,000 pounds.
