Future investments: Anthropic to spend $200 billion on Google Cloud and AI chips
09.05.26
Anthropic’s ambitious $200 billion deal with Google Cloud is a turning point for the AI market. The startup has made a long-term commitment that will not only provide the company with the necessary computing resources, but also significantly strengthen Google’s financial position in the corporate cloud computing sector.
Why Anthropic Google Cloud services?
According to information from industry sources, Anthropic has entered into a five-year contract involving an investment of $200 billion. This agreement makes Anthropic one of Google’s largest customers. The deal is so big that it could account for more than 40% of future cloud contract revenue that Google disclosed to investors last week. Alphabet shares rose 2% in extended trading following the news.
Technical specifications
The main deal is not only access to data warehouses, but also a specialized infrastructure with Tensor Processors (TPU). These solutions are designed specifically to accelerate the learning and operation of large language models. Anthropic critically needs this capacity to maintain its competitiveness. The development is carried out jointly with Broadcom, a key technology partner of Google in the field of semiconductors.
Alternative partnerships
Google is not the only partner of Anthropic. To avoid dependence on a single supplier and ensure the stability of its Claude AI family, the startup is diversifying its resources. Last month, the company signed a multi-year agreement with the provider CoreWeave. Additionally, by the end of the year, Anthropic plans to access nearly 1 gigawatt of capacity through Amazon’s infrastructure using their specialized chips.
Release date and asking price
The massive technology base created under this contract will not be operational overnight. It is expected that the new infrastructure, including modern tensor processors, will be put into active operation from 2027. Until then, the company will gradually increase the use of existing Google Cloud capabilities.
In addition to the payment of $200 billion by Anthropic for Google Cloud services, counter-investments are also worth noting. Earlier, the Alphabet corporation announced its readiness to invest up to $40 billion in the Anthropic company. Such mutual funding underscores the depth of integration between the AI startup and the cloud giant.
