Commodore has reduced the price of the Callback 8020 after criticism from users
29.06.26
The manufacturer of retro equipment Commodore has responded to user complaints about the high price of the Callback 8020 smartphone, which was originally $500. In response to criticism, the company revised its pricing strategy, offering more affordable terms for purchasing its niche device.
Positioning
The Callback 8020 is positioned as a stylish retro clamshell with a design inspired by classic Commodore products. The smartphone is based on the Sailfish OS operating system, which distinguishes it from modern Android devices. Specifications include a 3.25-inch display, a MediaTek Helio G81 processor, 4GB of RAM, and 64GB of built-in storage. Despite the unique design, the initial cost of the gadget seemed to many buyers to be overpriced.
Current price and discounts

The new official price of the device has been reduced to 16,000 hryvnias (about $400). The first buyers can take advantage of an additional discount of 2,000 hryvnias ($50), which allows you to purchase a smartphone at a price of 14,000 hryvnias ($350). However, for this reduction, Commodore was forced to eliminate wired headphones from the standard equipment.
Use of reclaimed memory
The main revelation of the company was the decision to use the restored RAM and flash memory in the basic configuration of the model. Such chips are extracted from old motherboards, undergo multi-stage testing and re-integrated into the Callback 8020. Commodore emphasizes that versions with new components are also in the line, but cost more.
The manufacturer explains the difficulty of forming the price by developing the device almost from scratch: the company designed a unique case, a new board and adapted the software platform.

This device is addressed to enthusiasts of retro aesthetics and users who want to reduce their dependence on social networks. Commodore’s decision to lower the price makes the device more affordable, but requires a willingness to accept the manufacturer’s specific approach to using refurbished memory chips. If the exclusive form factor and Sailfish OS are more important to you than the “top” specifications, this smartphone can be an interesting experiment.
