A revolution in brightness: Samsung Display launched the production of tandem OLED panels for laptops

Samsung Display has officially announced the start of mass production of a new generation of OLED panels for laptops.  The main technological achievement was the implementation of a tandem OLED structure, which provides unprecedented brightness and energy efficiency.

Two OLED layers instead of one

The novelty uses an architecture where two layers of organic LEDs are used instead of one standard layer. This innovative solution allowed Samsung to achieve a significant increase in the peak brightness of the display while simultaneously reducing power consumption. The tandem structure also has a positive effect on panel durability, which is critical for laptops.

This panel is the first in the industry to receive VESA DisplayHDR True Black 1400 certification, confirming compliance with strict image quality standards for professional work with HDR content.

Main characteristics of the display

Samsung engineers were able to significantly increase the indicators compared to previous OLED solutions:

• Peak brightness in a 10 percent window reaches 1400 nits.
• In small areas of the screen, the peak brightness can rise to 1600 nits.
• The increase in maximum brightness is approximately 40% compared to the previous generation OLED displays.
• Increased energy efficiency helps to extend the autonomous operation of devices.

Release date

The first device to receive an advanced display was the Lenovo Yoga Pro 9i Aura Edition. According to official data, the widespread introduction of panels in the products of the ASUS, Dell and MSI brands is expected in the second half of 2026.
