Samsung Galaxy Fold 8, Fold 8 Ultra and Galaxy Flip 8 foldable smartphones unveiled. First impressions
22.07.26
At the Galaxy Unpacked event, Samsung introduced a new generation of foldable smartphones – Galaxy Fold 8 Ultra, Galaxy Fold 8 and Galaxy Flip 8. The company continues to develop the line not so much through dramatic design changes, but due to the gradual improvement of design, cameras and AI capabilities.
If just a few years ago complex smartphones were perceived as technological demonstrations, now Samsung is increasingly bringing them closer to ordinary flagships. Smartphones fit more comfortably in the hand, the opening mechanism works more smoothly, and the crease in the display is no longer noticeable.
First impressions
After getting acquainted with smartphones, it becomes clear that Samsung continues to work on the weak points of foldable devices. First of all, this concerns the design of the display. The crease in the screen is now only noticeable at a certain lighting angle, and the opening mechanism itself works easily and smoothly.
The Galaxy Fold 8 Ultra made a particularly pleasant impression. Despite the large display, the smartphone feels light in the hand, and its body has become the thinnest among all models in the Fold line. At the same time, the smartphone does not seem fragile. On the contrary, the body leaves a feeling of solidity.

In addition to the updated design, all three smartphones received new Flex Titanium display technology. It uses a titanium structure that reinforces the flexible OLED panel, making the display more durable and further reducing the visibility of flex. At the same time, the new design helped make smartphones thinner without compromising reliability.
The approach to software capabilities has also changed. If previously the main advantage of folding smartphones was a large screen, now Samsung is increasingly adapting Galaxy AI functions to it. Multitasking, split-screen, smart photo processing, content translation and Now Nudge contextual suggestions make the flexible form factor not just fancy, but practical for work and everyday scenarios.
Samsung Galaxy Fold 8 Ultra is a flagship with a premium positioning

Samsung Galaxy Fold 8 Ultra has become the most technologically advanced model of the new generation. The smartphone has an 8-inch internal Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with a refresh rate of 120 Hz and peak brightness of up to 3000 nits. The external screen is also made using Dynamic AMOLED 2X technology.
The new product is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy processor, and autonomy is provided by a 5000 mAh battery. According to Samsung, this is enough for video playback for up to 27 hours.

Samsung Galaxy Fold 8 is a universal tool for work

Samsung Galaxy Fold 8 is aimed at users who actively work with documents, photos and videos.
The smartphone also runs on the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy processor and has a 4800 mAh battery, which lasts up to 26 hours of video viewing.

The main camera has a resolution of 50 MP. The device’s features include an intelligent document scanner, a Photo Assist function for photo editing, support for video translation, and dual recording that allows you to simultaneously shoot on both sides of the smartphone. This mode can be useful when doing interviews or creating video content.
For Fold models, split-screen capabilities are also implemented, allowing you to work more efficiently with several applications at once.
Samsung Galaxy Flip 8 – compact without compromise

Samsung Galaxy Flip 8 remains the most compact model in the series. The smartphone weighs only 180 grams and easily fits even in a small bag or pocket.
The model received a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy processor, a 4300 mAh battery and a 50 MP main camera with support for Optical Quality Zoom 2x. There is also a 12 MP ultra-wide-angle module and a front camera.

Samsung is positioning the Flip 8 as a smartphone for those who actively create content. The compact form factor allows you to comfortably shoot photos and videos, and the flexible design opens up a greater number of use cases without additional accessories.
Artificial intelligence has become even closer

All three new generation models received support for Galaxy AI functions. One of the key innovations is the Now Nudge system, which analyzes the context of information on the screen and suggests appropriate actions without the need to switch between applications.
For example, if the message contains an address, the smartphone will offer to open it in maps; if there is a meeting date, immediately add the event to the calendar.
Another feature is Optical Quality Zoom. Samsung uses this technology to achieve 2x zoom without significant loss of quality thanks to the Adaptive Pixel Sensor. At the same time, full 3x optical zoom is available only on the Galaxy Fold 8 Ultra.
A new stage in the development of foldable smartphones

After getting acquainted with the new line, it seems that Samsung this year relied not on high-profile experiments, but on improving an already familiar concept. The company has worked on what matters most to the everyday user experience: smartphones have become thinner and lighter, display creases are less noticeable, and Galaxy AI capabilities have become even more deeply integrated into the system.
The Galaxy Fold 8 Ultra is aimed at those looking for maximum features and a premium experience, the Galaxy Fold 8 is for productivity, multitasking and content creation, while the Galaxy Flip 8 focuses on compactness, style and mobile photography.
The first acquaintance with Galaxy Unpacked left a positive impression: the new foldable smartphones look not just an evolution of the line, but another step towards ensuring that this form factor becomes a common choice for a wider range of users.
