China vs. USA: Chinese neural networks are taking over the AI video market
19.05.26
The arms race in the field of generative artificial intelligence has reached a new level, and today the main front of the confrontation has become video generation. Chinese AI startups and tech giants have begun to demonstrate a significant advantage over Western competitors in this area. The demand for high-quality, fast and cheap video content generation for advertising, entertainment and e-commerce is growing rapidly, and Chinese solutions are now considered the most dynamic and promising.
Chinese AI models
Chinese developers presented a number of tools that received high marks from experts and users for the realism and accuracy of command execution. Among the leaders stand out:
- Kling is a neural network capable of creating detailed video with smooth movements and natural object physics.
- Seedance 2.0 is a model from ByteDance that demonstrates excellent results in understanding dynamic scenes.
- Hailuo is an AI tool known for its stable picture and minimal visual artifacts.
These models often show the best results in the accuracy of text prompts compared to available Western counterparts, providing a more stable image and natural scene dynamics.
A key advantage of Chinese companies such as ByteDance and Kuaishou is unique access to colossal amounts of data. Short video platforms (TikTok and Chinese Kuaishou) provide an endless stream of educational material. This allows models to better understand the laws of motion, the interaction of objects and the composition of frames. US companies such as OpenAI, Google and Anthropic find it much more difficult to access video arrays of this scale to train their algorithms.
Veo 3 from Google vs Chinese analogues
Despite the US dominance in LLM and coding, it faces obstacles in video. Google’s US model Veo 3 is technically strong, but its flexibility is often limited by strict security policies and content requirements. Chinese services are often more loyal to user requests, block generation less often and offer a wider creative range. In addition, Celestial tools often offer more favorable terms: flexible subscriptions or a pay-as-you-go model, making them affordable for smaller studios.
Challenges of video generation technology
Despite its success, the video generation sector faces serious challenges. First of all, creating a video is an extremely expensive process in terms of computing resources and electricity. Previously, even the industry leader OpenAI was forced to revise the implementation dates of some of its video projects due to critically high infrastructure costs. In addition, the active use of content from the Internet causes sharp legal disputes regarding copyright.
