Casio presents premium thin watch A1000SP-7 with sapphire crystal

Casio is expanding its Vintage Premium line with the release of the updatedA1000SP-7. These watches are positioned as a more “grown-up” and high-quality alternative to the brand’s classic digital models, such as the A158 or A168.

Review of Casio A1000SP-7

Unlike budget models with a chrome-plated plastic case and mineral glass, the new A1000 series is made in a full steel case with a cast bracelet. The case thickness is only 7.3 mm, which gives the accessory a more sophisticated and sleek look on the wrist.

Characteristics and design features

The main innovation was the replacement of mineral glass with sapphire glass, which provides a high level of scratch resistance. Beneath the glass is a dial with a brass base and a special textured coating (stripped vapor deposition), creating an effect of depth that changes depending on the lighting angle.

Design details include:

  • Combined finish of the bracelet: a combination of matte and mirror polished links.
  • Case size 39.6 × 38 × 7.3 mm.
  • Watch weight: 101 g

Technical specifications

The watch has a standard set of functions for the A1000 series, focused on daily comfort:

  • LED-backlight Super Illuminator.
  • Stopwatch with 1/100 second accuracy.
  • Daily alarm and hourly beep.
  • Automatic calendar.
  • CR1616 battery with a service life of up to 3 years.
  • Water protection.
  • Three-fold clasp

Price and availability

Official prices at the time of release have not yet been announced. However, based on the cost of the standard A1000A-7 model (about 3,800 – 4,500 UAH / 90–100 USD), we should expect that the SP version with sapphire crystal will be sold at a significant premium. The watch is delivered in a special gift box.

Is it worth buying new Casios?

The A1000SP-7 is a great choice for those who appreciate the ’80s aesthetics of a digital watch but want more premium materials. The sapphire crystal and all-steel case make them a durable accessory that looks much more expensive than their smaller plastic counterparts.
