Apple updates support for Apple Watch: watchOS 27 will deprive some models of new functions
10.06.26
Apple has reviewed the list of devices compatible with the upcoming version of the operating system for smart watches – watchOS 27. The update expands support for current models, but at the same time removes part of the previous generations of Apple Watch from the ecosystem.
Which Apple Watches will work with watchOS 27
After the update, the list of supported devices includes only the new Apple Watch models:
- Apple Watch SE 3
- Apple Watch Series 9
- Apple Watch Series 10
- Apple Watch Series 11
- Apple Watch Ultra 2
- Apple Watch Ultra 3
Initially, there was uncertainty surrounding the Series 9 – the model was absent from the first compatibility materials. Later, the information was clarified: the device is officially included in the list of supported ones.
Which models are losing support
With the release of watchOS 27, some devices will no longer be able to update to the new version of the system. The restriction will affect:
- Apple Watch Ultra first generation
- Apple Watch SE 2
Both models belong to the 2022 generation, but Apple no longer includes them in the list of devices that receive major operating system updates.
Why Apple is ending support for older devices

The company does not disclose specific reasons for excluding these models from the update. However, such steps are standard practice: with each new generation of watchOS, the load on the hardware capabilities of devices increases, and some functions require more modern hardware for stable operation and energy efficiency.
WatchOS release date 27
The announcement of the system took place as part of WWDC 2026. After that, developers will have access to beta versions, and the final release is expected in the fall of 2026, at the same time as the traditional refresh of the Apple device line
