Windows 11 will automatically switch between dark and light interface themes
20.10.25
Microsoft has released the PowerToys 0.95 update, which introduces a new Light Switch feature – a tool for automatically switching between light and dark themes in Windows 11.
Light Switch allows the system to automatically change the theme depending on the time of day – the program determines sunrise and sunset according to the user’s geolocation. Thus, the light theme is turned on during the day, and the dark one after sunset.
Users can also set their own schedule to independently select the hours when each mode is activated. Additionally, Microsoft has provided hotkeys for instantly switching themes without opening the settings.
This is not the first update aimed at improving the dark theme in Windows 11. Previously, the company expanded support for dark mode, adding it to new system dialogs and windows. The new Light Switch tool makes this process more convenient and more automated.
