Waveshare unveils compact ESP32-C5 development board with touchscreen, ZigBee and Wi-Fi 6 support

Waveshare introduced a compact ESP32-C5 development board with a touch screen, ZigBee and Wi-Fi 6 support

Waveshare has expanded its line of smart home components by releasing a 2.8-inch touch development board based on the ESP32-C5 chip. The device offers a balanced set of features for electronics enthusiasts and IoT developers, combining a user-friendly display with powerful communications capabilities.

What is the Waveshare ESP32-C5 development board?

The new product is a specialized platform with an IPS screen that serves as a ready-made interface for controlling smart devices or playing basic media content. The heart of the board is the ESP32-C5-WROOM-1 SoC, built on the RISC-V architecture with a frequency of up to 240 MHz. Support for ESP-IDF and Arduino IDE platforms greatly simplifies the software development process.

Technical characteristics

The display has a resolution of 240 × 320 pixels and supports touch control. An important feature of the board is the integration of a wide range of sensors and interfaces:

  • Sensors: SHTC3 (temperature and humidity), QMI8658 (gyroscope and accelerometer).
  • Audio: Built-in microphone for audio recording.
  • Connectivity: Dual-band Wi-Fi (2.4 and 5 GHz), Bluetooth 5, ZigBee 3.0 and Thread.
  • Connectors: USB-C for power and programming, slot for microSD memory card.
