No-choice migration: Nova Poshta migrates all customers to the new application
21.05.26
The Ukrainian logistics company Nova Poshta will end support and close its old mobile application by the end of this year. At the moment, it is still used by about 6 million customers. Full-fledged migration of users to the new program has already been launched, but this process is associated with certain difficulties in adapting the audience to the updated ecosystem of services.
The decision to close the previous version of the software is related to the need to modernize the infrastructure. The new mobile application was created as a flexible and modern solution for integration with foreign European branches. Maintaining the legacy code base requires unreasonable resources, so the final transition to the updated interface is a matter of time and will be completed by the end of this year.
History of mobile applications
The previous version of the Novaya Poshta mobile application has been operating since 2012. Over ten years of operation, it has been downloaded by more than 10 million users on devices running Android and iOS. The new program, which was initially positioned as an auxiliary software for customers outside Ukraine, was presented in 2022. During two years of active promotion, the updated application has gained 5 million downloads on the Android platform (of which 4.5 million are permanent active users). Detailed statistics of iOS-based devices were not officially published.
The creation of a new mobile client became a large-scale challenge for specialists of Nova Digital (a specialized IT unit of the entire Nova group). $1.7 million was spent on the development of this product from scratch. Large-scale investments made it possible to create software with a completely different logic of the internal server system (back-end), which is optimized for the rapid scaling of the logistics network in European countries.
Version differences
The outdated program has not received security updates and functional improvements for the past two years. This creates an obvious technology gap: modern options, such as the multinumber creation tool, are only implemented in the 2022 version. In addition, the old software is incompatible with the software complexes that Nova Poshta uses in its European offices. Currently, about 700,000 customers still use both apps on their phones in parallel, but soon the old version will stop responding to requests from the company’s servers.
The transition will become mandatory for all users in the coming months. In order to painlessly abandon the old program, Nova Poshta promises to complete the synchronization of customer profiles and fully adapt the database for seamless migration of each personal account.
