Microsoft updates search in Windows 11: completely removes ads and improves efficiency
14.07.26
Microsoft developers have introduced a major update to the search function in the Windows 11 taskbar, which is aimed at simplifying the user interface and speeding up interaction with the system. The innovation is currently at the testing stage in the Windows Insider channel and is available to some users of the experimental build.
What has changed in Windows 11 search
The current version of the search is divided into two columns: one displays the query history, the second – a block of advertising offers for Microsoft services and applications. In the updated version, advertising has been completely removed. The freed up space allowed us to increase the amount of information about the history of previous searches, making the system more functional and convenient.
Improving the interface and functions
The updated interface now better structures the results. It has become easier for users to distinguish applications from system files, settings or web pages. An expanded preview of supported file types has also been added, and control of the “Open with” option is now available directly from the search bar.
Local data priority
The work algorithm has been reconfigured to increase the priority of local search results. This means that if a user searches for an application (such as Outlook) or a system component, even with typos, Windows 11 is now less likely to send the request to the network, ensuring that the desired local result is received faster.
Features of working with web search
When searching online, space is no longer wasted on advertising content. Web search results appear immediately at the top of the list, eliminating the need for unnecessary scrolling.

Is it worth waiting for a wide release
At the moment, Microsoft has not officially announced the exact release date for the updated search in the stable version of Windows 11. At the moment, the feature is being rolled out in stages as part of the Windows Insider program to test the user experience.
