LinkedIn Users File Million Complaints a Month Against AI Slop

Million complaints a month: how LinkedIn fights AI slop

LinkedIn has faced an influx of content generated by artificial intelligence, forcing the platform to implement a dedicated moderation system. Less than a month after the feature’s launch, users have flagged posts as “AI slop” more than one million times.

The Fight Against AI Content

On July 30, LinkedIn introduced a “Seems like AI slop” button in the post settings menu. The tool is designed to filter out low-quality messages that offer no value to the audience and are created solely by algorithms.

The scale of the issue is clear: research using the Pangram AI detector suggests that up to 41% of long-form posts on the platform may be entirely AI-generated.

Impact on Reach and Visibility

The experiment is already yielding measurable results. Posts flagged by the community as “AI slop” lose approximately 40% of their reach. The platform analyzes user signals to refine its own automated detection algorithms.

LinkedIn Suppresses AI Slop Reach

The term “AI slop” refers to mass-produced, meaningless content generated by neural networks without human input. LinkedIn is going beyond user reports: the social network is also taking strict measures against comments sent in bulk through automated processes.

Authors whose content is deemed low-quality by users now receive notifications through the platform’s analytics system. This is intended to help content creators understand why their performance metrics are dropping and encourage them to align their strategies with higher quality standards.

The volume of complaints underscores the severity of the mass AI content problem for professional social networks. LinkedIn intends to leverage user feedback to train its AI slop detection systems while simultaneously reducing the visibility of posts that the audience finds worthless. For creators, this means that flooding the feed with AI-generated text no longer guarantees the same reach.
