Lenovo Legion PB9: a new power bank with a trio of ports and support for charging a laptop

Lenovo launched a new Legion PB9 (LPB9) external battery designed to charge power-hungry devices, including gaming laptops. The model is aimed at users who need high power in a portable format and support for modern fast charging standards.
Design with an emphasis on gaming style and built-in screen
The appearance of Legion PB9 is noticeably different from standard power banks. Instead of the usual rectangular body, a wedge-shaped shape with an awkward profile is used. The front panel is made with translucent elements and a large “170W” inscription, which emphasizes the stated capabilities of the device.
A color display is installed on the side, which displays key performance parameters: the current charge level, input and output power, as well as the estimated time until the connected devices are fully charged. The information is updated in real time, allowing you to control the process without additional programs.
Interfaces and energy distribution scenarios
There are three ports on the top of the case: two USB-C and one USB-A. When connected via one USB-C, the device can deliver up to 140W, while USB-A is designed for a maximum of 30W. The total declared power with simultaneous use of all connectors reaches 170 W.
Lenovo has provided several power distribution schemes between ports. Depending on the usage scenario, the power can be shared between two USB-C or combined with USB-A, and when three devices are connected at the same time, the load is automatically redistributed.
Battery, charging protocols and security
Inside is a lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 24,000 mAh with a nominal energy of 86.4 Wh. Legion PB9 supports a wide range of fast charging protocols, including various versions of USB Power Delivery, PPS, Quick Charge, as well as a number of proprietary and compatible standards used in mobile electronics.
The body is made of fire-resistant material with the VO protection class, and the battery itself has passed the 3C certification, which confirms compliance with the safety requirements of the Chinese market. The dimensions of the device are 171.2×70.5×61.8 mm, the weight is about 710 grams.
Market and value

The Lenovo Legion PB9 is currently only available in China. The retail price is about 80 dollars in yuan. The company has not yet announced the timing of the device’s appearance on the global market.
