Kingston IronKey LP50 G2: flash drive in iron case with 256-bit encryption

Kingston IronKey LP50 G2

Kingston Technology has introduced an updated model of a secure USB drive, Kingston IronKey Locker+ data protection. It would seem that who in 2026 could use a flash drive?

The device is made in a metal case and weighs about 23 grams. The main difference from mass flash drives is hardware encryption.

Compliance with standards and protection against attacks

The model has received FIPS 197 certification, which confirms the use of proven encryption algorithms. The firmware is digitally signed, which reduces the risk of BadUSB attacks, in which the drive can disguise itself as another device.

Password brute force protection is implemented. After ten unsuccessful attempts to enter the encryption key, the file is deleted. The files physically remain on the drive, but become inaccessible for recovery.

Features and positioning

The drive uses a USB 3.2 Gen 1 interface. The declared read speed reaches 145 MB/s. The device is available in versions with a capacity of 32 to 256 GB.

The Kingston Technology line also includes more secure solutions with FIPS 140-3 Level 3 certification, but the LP50 G2 model is aimed at the mass segment – from small businesses to government agencies.

Local data protection remains only one of the security elements. Against the background of increasing cyber threats and the activity of states in the digital space, the issue of information protection in 2026 continues to move from the category of optional to basic.
