The analytical company IDC has revised its forecast for the global PC market for 2026. Now analysts expect a deeper decline in shipments than previously expected.

IDC has worsened its forecast for global PC shipments

According to the updated estimate of the International Data Corporation (IDC), global shipments of personal computers will decrease by 11.3% in 2026.

The company’s previous forecast assumed a decline of about 8.9%, but the new calculations turned out to be more pessimistic.

The main reason for the revision, analysts call the ongoing shortage of RAM, which directly affects the production of computer equipment. The limited supply of components makes it difficult to release new devices and puts pressure on supply chains.

Memory shortages could last for years

According to IDC, memory supply problems could persist until at least 2027.

Jitesh Ubriani, research manager for Worldwide Mobile Device Trackers, noted that a noticeable decrease in memory prices is not possible before 2028. At the same time, the market, according to him, is unlikely to return to the price level observed in 2025.

IDC’s current forecast was prepared even before the escalation of the conflict around Iran. In the event of further escalation, the situation could increase pressure on the technology sector and electronics production.

The rising cost of memory is already having an impact on the market. Several manufacturers have previously announced pricing adjustments or component cost increases, including HP, Samsung, Valve, and Framework.
