Google Now Lets You Remove Visible Watermarks from Gemini Images

Google has taken a significant step in the development of its AI-powered tools. Previously, many users were deterred by the prominent watermark in the bottom-right corner of images created by the Nano Banana model. Now, the company has provided the option to decide whether to keep or remove this marker.

What Has Changed in the Gemini Image Generator

Users have received a new setting within the Gemini and Flow interfaces. This option will also appear in the AI Mode within Google Search shortly. The generation process has become more flexible: if you want to create visual content without extra elements overlaid by the service, you can simply deactivate them in your profile settings.

Support for Other Content Types

The update applies to more than just graphics. The ability to disable watermarks will be available for:

  • Videos created using Gemini Omni.
  • Music tracks generated by the Lyria model.

There is one important exception: in countries where legislation requires mandatory labeling of AI-generated content, watermarks will be applied automatically. These include:

  • EU countries (new legislation effective since August 2nd of this year)
  • USA (California)
  • China
  • South Korea

Key Details: SynthID and Metadata

Despite the ability to hide the visible watermark, Google emphasizes its commitment to AI content transparency. Invisible SynthID watermarks and C2PA metadata are still integrated into the files. This means that the technical protection remains: you can always ask Gemini whether an image was generated by an AI, and the system will provide an honest answer.

Should You Remove Watermarks?

For professional users and content creators who prioritize a “clean” image for presentations or social media, this is a long-awaited update. However, it is important to remember: hiding the label does not make the image “natural.” The identification system remains active, so hiding the fact that AI was involved in content creation from advanced verification tools will not be possible.
