Experimental Maglev Hits 800 km/h in 5.3 Seconds

Китайский поезд на магнитной подушке установил рекорд скорости: 800 км/ч за 5 секунд

Chinese researchers have achieved another breakthrough in railway transport. At the Donghu laboratory in Hubei Province, a new world record for the acceleration of an experimental maglev train was set. The 1.1-ton craft reached a speed of 800 km/h from a standstill in just 5.3 seconds. A specialized 1 km test track was used for the trial.

Maglev Train Technology

Magnetic levitation (maglev) technology eliminates physical contact with rails. Instead of wheels, the train uses a powerful magnetic field to lift it above the track, virtually eliminating friction. Motion is driven by magnetic waves generated by coils positioned along the entire length of the track.

Experiment Characteristics and Features

Beyond the impressive acceleration, engineers successfully implemented a complex braking system: after reaching 800 km/h, the train was able to come to a full stop in roughly 200 meters. The test confirmed the effectiveness of:

  • The high-power supply system.
  • The electromagnetic engine.
  • High-speed levitation technology.
  • The emergency braking system.

Record Chronology

This project has been developing rapidly over the last six months. Here are the key milestones of the experimental train’s progress over that period:

Date/Period Speed Achieved
June 2025 650 km/h (in 7 seconds)
Recent tests 700 km/h and 798 km/h
Current result 800 km/h (in 5.3 seconds)

This record-breaking experiment does not yet mean the arrival of a passenger train capable of carrying people at 800 km/h. The primary goal of the project is to refine technologies for future ultra-high-speed transport systems and other high-speed facilities. For commercial application, issues regarding infrastructure costs, safety, and air resistance must still be addressed, so there is a long road ahead before the technology sees practical implementation.
