Goodbye, classic: NVIDIA closes the Control Panel after 20 years of operation

The legendary classic NVIDIA control panel goes to a well-deserved rest after twenty years of active use. The developer officially stops supporting this system interface for video cards of the GeForce series. From now on, all fine-tuning of graphics and monitors will be done exclusively through the new proprietary software called NVIDIA App.

Replacement: NVIDIA App

As it became known from the company’s statement, this step marks the final stage of the large-scale migration of system settings into a single universal interface. For a long time, users were forced to work in parallel with both GeForce Experience and the old Control Panel. The new NVIDIA App utility was created to permanently combine these tools in a single, fast shell.

The company claims that all actively supported features that were previously available in the Control Panel have already been successfully migrated to the new software hub. It no longer makes practical sense to develop the old design and continue to support outdated interface solutions for gamers.

Features of the transition and functionality of the new program

When the NVIDIA App was first introduced in 2024 as a universal alternative, many complained about its rather modest list of basic capabilities. The situation was fixed with a series of large-scale updates.

NVIDIA App functions

Yes, the update in August 2025 was one of the most significant in the history of the utility. It was then that the developers completely completed the integration of key tools: setting global and individual 3D profiles, fine-tuning of multi-monitor systems (Surround) and surround audio parameters. Due to this, the modern program now offers a complete replacement of the old interface.

NVIDIA Control Panel in a new format

Game Ready / Studio vs RTX PRO drivers

The restriction will not affect all categories of customers at the same time:

  • Game Ready and Studio drivers: Control Panel support is being discontinued completely. Fresh updates will remove shortcuts, making NVIDIA App the main application.
  • Professional RTX PRO drivers: For this line, the classic interface will be temporarily supported until absolutely all highly specialized professional-level tools are migrated and tested in the new program.

Nuances of renewal and closing dates

It is not necessary to specifically remove the classic interface manually. The developers clarified that the software that is already on the computers will not disappear on its own during a standard minor update. The control panel is only removed during a “clean install” of new versions of the Game Ready or Studio video driver.

Users will still be able to download the classic utility directly from the Microsoft Store for personal convenience. However, the company warns that support for the utility has been discontinued, so the developers do not plan to add new fixes, functional blocks or patches for new games to it.
