God of War: Laufey will be released earlier than expected

Developers from Sony and Santa Monica Studio have officially confirmed the release date of the next part of the legendary franchise – God of War: Laufey. The long-awaited project will go on sale on February 16, 2027, which was officially announced as part of the San Diego Comic-Con festival.

Game details

The novelty is a full-fledged part of the saga, not a prequel or an offshoot. According to the authors’ plan, Laufey should organically complement the plot of the 2018 game and subsequent events. The story runs parallel to Kratos’ adventures, focusing on Faye’s journey to the afterlife after her own funeral. There, she will face threats far beyond Norse myth, including adversaries from Asian and ancient Egyptian cultures.

Gameplay

Fae’s main goal in this game is to restore Kratos and Atreus’ predestined destiny to fulfill an ancient prophecy. The gameplay is built on mastery of weapons and magical skills characteristic of this character. One of the key features will be combat allies — Faye will have to fight side by side with both new heroes and familiar faces from past parts of the series.

Plans for the future

God of War: Laufey will be exclusive to the PlayStation 5 console. It is important to note that the story of the franchise does not end at this chapter: the creative director of the project, Cory Barlog, confirmed that after Laufey, there is another big project in development, in which Kratos will once again be at the center. There are no details about this sequel yet.
