The developers of Battlefield 6 have opened temporary access to their popular game. From August 18 to 25, everyone can try out the project’s multiplayer modes completely for free. This is a great opportunity for those who were hesitant about purchasing the game to personally test the quality of the mechanics presented in the current version of the shooter.
What Is Included in the Battlefield 6 Free Trial?
During the week-long trial, players will have access to several key modes: Conquest, Breakthrough, Escalation, Casual Breakthrough, and the thematic Top Gun: Carrier Strike. Battles will take place on four locations: Wake Island, Tsuru Reef, Cairo Bazaar, and Hagental Base. This content allows you not only to get acquainted with the gameplay but also to evaluate the current Top Gun crossover.
Platforms and Access Details
Free access to Battlefield 6 will be provided to PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC users. On PC, the game can be downloaded via Steam, the Epic Games Store, or the EA App client. An important detail is progress retention: all achievements and unlocked items earned during the week of play will carry over to the full version if purchased.
The Main “Catch” of the Trial Version
The main obstacle to participating in the promotion is a technical nuance. To access Battlefield 6, players must first download and install the REDSEC mode—a separate project in the Battlefield universe in the Battle Royale genre. The size of the REDSEC distribution varies from 27 GB to over 60 GB depending on the platform, which may be a significant barrier for some users.
Why Is EA Insisting on the REDSEC Download?
Discussions are ongoing in the gaming community and industry media about the reasons for this mandatory condition. According to Insider Gaming, the publisher is intentionally using the popularity of the main game to force the audience into the less successful REDSEC mode. It is assumed that after spending time on the large download, users are more likely to remain in Battle Royale after the trial ends. Meanwhile, many Reddit users believe it is merely a technical necessity, as the Top Gun mode may use resources and maps from REDSEC, although no official confirmation of this theory has been provided yet.
