God of War: Laufey confirmed on discs amid Sony’s new strategy

Santa Monica Game Studio, a division of PlayStation, has officially confirmed that the upcoming project God of War: Laufey will be available to users on physical discs. Despite the current trends of transition to digital distribution, the studio decided to support the media format.

Official release confirmation

The developers have published a message in which they clearly stated their plans to release a disc version of the game. This decision is very important in the context of Sony’s current policy, which foresees a possible phase-out of physical copies by 2028. Confirmation of the disc release for God of War: Laufey guarantees players the right to choose how to purchase the project.

Disk version output value

This move emphasizes the studio’s commitment to preserving the tradition of physical editions. Santa Monica isn’t the only company following this course. Previously, developers Insomniac Games also confirmed the release of Wolverine on discs, and the creators of the indie shooter Mouse: P.I. for Hire announced that their game will work without the need for an internet connection, using a physical cartridge or disc.

Key events

A large-scale presentation of the project is planned as part of the San Diego Comic-Con event. Among the invited guests are the director of the game, Ariel Lawrence, as well as the actors who performed the main roles: Deborah Ann Wall (Laufay) and Christopher Judge (Kratos). Additionally, Santa Monica Studio Creative Director Corey Barlogh is scheduled to share details of the development process.
